so my mom just tried to be all cute and did some "research" on bands that are like, cool. she came over with three CD's: Hybrid, Camera Obscura and KT Tunstall. i guess the most recent of all of them, since that's what you do when you do research

so camera is fine and so is Hybrid, though kind of uninteresting but KT?

I LOVE IT! just kidding. i really can't imagine ever wanting to get past that first song. i kind of hated it. it was like indie kelly clarkson. am i missing something?

Ramzi Awn (Awn, R), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:10 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Kelly Clarkson's got some good tunes.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:11 (seventeen years ago) link

lol i know! because at least she IS kelly clarkson.

although i really don't know about "some." i liked miss independent and the big one. but the follw up to the big one was stupid, something about here i am once again - right? bad.

Ramzi Awn (Awn, R), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:13 (seventeen years ago) link

But KT Tunstall to me isn't even Pop in the KC sense. It's self-consciously "classy" and unconfrontational - you're not supposed to hate it, even if you never really listen to it because it has NO hooks or moments of interest.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:18 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I mean that it represents a set of values and sounds that I find bourgeois and smug. It rejects drama, meaning consciousness. Classy is the worst epithet I can imagine at the moment.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:20 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd hit it.

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:26 (seventeen years ago) link

absolutely. no she's not a KC pop kind of thing

but th ething is, the seemingly intentional blandness of it (at least that's what i think you mean) does indeed make me hate it. no hooks or drama to me is hateful

Ramzi Awn (Awn, R), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:28 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost

I take Dom's point, but I fear she owns Tarot cards.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:32 (seventeen years ago) link

First one to find the pic of her with "This machine kills fascists" written on her guitar wins the prize of my salty tears.

jim (jim), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:34 (seventeen years ago) link

"This machine kills facists", more likely.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 00:36 (seventeen years ago) link
