I'm really taken with this thing right now.
From Loop to Can to Chanting Like a Monk to Spacemen 3? sometimes I hear the Rolling Stones in them, too, which is kindof weird.

The Stooges on Codeine. I am so there.

Also...Hawkwind. Don't get me wrong.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 25 December 2006 22:25 (nineteen years ago)

just downloaded this to check it out based on your description... very impressed... I hear early post-Syd Floyd in there as well...

Recommend me more of this stuff please!

Jack Battery-Pack (jack battery-pack), Tuesday, 26 December 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Post-Syd Floyd is the comparision that makes the most sense to me. "At Giza" wouldn't feel at all out of place on Meddle.

Dunno what else to recommend along these lines. What Om are doing is kinda unique at the moment, though I'm sure there'll be followers.

Mammatus? Earthless? Sunn0))) at their least grymm? Black-Boned Angel? Tarantula Hawk, maybe...

Haven't heard much else like Om, especially like the lyrics which just get better w/ repeated listens. I like the first album better, I think, def search that one. There's a decent thread on real ilm about them.

i bet i would hate seeing these guys live but this record is fucking great!

grady (grady), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 07:50 (nineteen years ago)

...? om are one of the few bands on earth i want to see.

GAWD PVNCH (yournullfame), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

well it looks like i'll get an opportunity to see them as they're coming to Austria in April as part of David Tibet's weekend curating the Donau Festival..

Dudes are seriously great live, Grady.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

I don't get it. I tried listening to this album, and it did so little for me that I can't even remember what I disliked. It just drifted right on by. Maybe I should try smoking pot.

pdf (unperson), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:55 (nineteen years ago)

Their website says they're planning gigs in Portland & Seattle on Feb. 2nd & 3rd! Yay!

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

this album grew on me to the point where i prefer it to the first. i need to see them live ASAP

p.s. pdf is on crack

My sis was playing it a lot before Xmas and it works as great background music. But it also works with full attention, and the life show at ArthurNights = yow.

My GF is a Yoga Teacher. She was working on her resume the other night and i was listening to this record on headphones. I told her I was listening to a band called "Om." She asked: "Is it Yogic music?" I didn't know how to answer so ijust let her listen for a bit.

she told me it wasn't.

grady (grady), Thursday, 28 December 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

Does this have absolutely nothing to do with the Dave Holland album?

JordanC (JordanC), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:52 (nineteen years ago)

Absolutely nothing.

mcd (mcd), Thursday, 28 December 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

it's a great album. i wasn't excited by the sunno))))))))/boris summit, but a jesu/om meeting of the drones would be my cup of acid.

Om/Current 93 split is great...

sgh (sgh), Friday, 29 December 2006 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

It is.
The split with Six Organs Of Admittance is good too.

pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 29 December 2006 03:06 (nineteen years ago)

Except for the SOoA (just like the Current 93 split is brilliant, except for the Current 93).

adam beales (pye poudre), Friday, 29 December 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

Complaints complaints.
