This band seems to delight in overlapping singles collections, export only versions, fan club collections...What are the vital elements?

i'm very excited because my gf is buddies with the dude who played bass on 'only love can break your heart' and he and another friend of hers went to this christmas show they played several nights ago, at which they gave out a show-only christmas ep. they snagged copies of it for us : D

anyway i think all of their stuff is classic, though there are some which are less essential for non-completists. i think all their albums are well worth it, though if i had to choose i'd say 'sound of water' is one which isn't necessary and their twin peaks are 'tiger bay' and 'tales from turnpike house', with 'good humor', 'so tough', finisterre', and 'foxbase alpha' a close second. their essential comps are 'continental', 'you need a mess of help to stand alone', and the 'nice price!' fanclub-only cd (which you can get for relatively cheap on ebay, still). i'm possibly the wrong person to ask, though.

The first three albums (Foxbase Alpha, So Tough, Tiger Bay) are superb.

i think the sound of water is so much better than finesterre, but I like them more dark and mysterious than I do poppy
