If I'm racist, wouldn't I just not listen?

jw (ex machina), Sunday, 24 December 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, 6000 ILX posts about things we hate say nope

jw (ex machina), Sunday, 24 December 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

dude considering the local 'urban' stations play far more variety of what i want to hear than local 'pop' stations, these days at least, im willing to put up with it

nervous (nervous), Sunday, 24 December 2006 19:43 (nineteen years ago)

also at the most they take what 10 seconds, most of which is played over the intro to the song anyway

LA's new Movin' 93.9, intended to appeal to Working Urban Women apparently plays nothing but "Family Affair" and shoutouts to people "still in the struggle."

This immediately makes it the fourth-best station in LA.

Next thing you'll be telling us you don't like Reggaeton.

sly stone or mary j?

and what (ooo), Sunday, 24 December 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

A lot of UK Radio Stations have this thing on a weekend where they ask people to phone in and tell everybody where they're going out that night. It drives me nuts. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT CLUB YOU'RE GOING TO, PEOPLE.

We just got a 'Movin' station here (Movin' 107.5), but I'm pretty sure they want to be the Gay Disco channel. Justin Timberlake, early-90s dance pop, etc.. Easily the best music station in town now.

milo (milo), Sunday, 24 December 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

Mary J (and Dre!)

Sly Stone would make it the second-best station in LA.

I think this kind of shit is awesome, it makes it seem like you're part of a city-wide party or something

deej (deej), Monday, 25 December 2006 04:31 (nineteen years ago)

Urban formats are increasingly the only commercial radio I ever bother turning to, and I've never particularly minded the shout-outs.

BTW, has anyone ever listened to the Hot 97 show where people "air their beef?" I haven't, but I'm always baffled that it exists.

On the Friday morning version of the syndicated Russ Parr morning show (on some US r'n'b/rap stations) during the 'wrong song' segment where DJ 6th Sense mixes old rap and pop and r'n'b they take callers from everywhere and I kinda like the way Parr and his in his studio assistants respond to callers saying where they're from by repeating the city name and stretching it out (Baaaaawston)

But I kinda get bored with the "get on the train" call-in segment on the Saturday morning soul oldies show on the DC Pacifica station WPFW

our excellent local station WORT has great shoutouts on saturday nites, 'this is boo boo, i wanna say hey to my cousin alisa and to my cousin jimmy who's up in juvie stay strong lil man'

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Monday, 25 December 2006 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

it'd be funny if WORT was out of a town called St. Johns. cos then they could say "keeping you from killing yourself...natural, like."

urghonomic (gcannon), Monday, 25 December 2006 09:42 (nineteen years ago)

when dedications are, like, a scheduled thing ("NINE TO TEN SATURDAY DEDICATION HOUR!!!") I love them so much

next thing you'll be telling us you don't like Love Songs Along the KOST with Delilah

Jaufre Rudel (Jaufre Rudel), Monday, 25 December 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

The king of dedications and shout outs in LA has long been Art Laboe.
