John Coltrane's "India" -- Classic or Totally Sublimely Classic?

I was listening to the version on the Live at Village Vanguard Master Takes on my drive home today and I played it three times in a row. At 3:22 when the high note breaks made me want to cry and most of Dolphy's clarinet solo is just absolutely brilliant. Coltrane had the lungs of God during this song.

Orgasmically classic. That whole fucking four disc set too - fuck, I want to listen to it now.

The version on Disc 2 of that box set is the best thing Coltrane ever recorded. That droning oud gets me every time.

I still have never heard the Vanguard box. I've got the single disc version and "Chasing the Trane" is about as perfect as it gets.

Okay I must get the box now.

the box has four versions of 'india' and one of the first things I did was rip and burn all four of them to a single hour-long disc

this and 'africa' from africa / brass are the first things I play for someone who asks me why I own so many 60's coltrane records

The version of "Spiritual" on Disc 1 (I think?) of the Complete Vanguard tapes tops anything else on there in my opinion, making "India" better than "classic" but less than "Totally Sublimely Classic." Perhaps merely "Totally classic"?

Milton, that is a fucking brilliant idea. I am going to do that.

I'm quite fond of Brasilia too, and the Impressions take without the Dolphy solo (though the one with is good too)

I've only got the VV box to hand - which version was originally on Impressions?

Sorry, I meant the take OF Impressions from the VV box that doesn't have a Dolphy solo, not a take of Brasilia.

No, my mistake, I wasn't clear. I want to hear the originally released version of "India."
