At the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Max M. Fischer Music Center. Anyone going? I will be and couldn't be more excited (except I'm old and the 10pm to 4am seems like torture). That's about it.

I'm not...(I'm going back the the D for Xmas, but have to leave before New Year's)...sounds great, though...this isn't in the main hall, is it?...(the idea of assigned seating for a techno event is just crazy...of course, they do have perfect acoustics there)...

It's in the Max M. Fischer Music Center, which does not appear to have assigned seating. That would seem to be incorrect.

I asked something about this on öld-ILM, but I also wanna go to a few record stores while we're up there. I though about Submerge but someone said they have weird hours and I'd need to call ahead. We're only going to be up there for two day, so if I had to go to just one store, which one should it be?

I think that was me...I also recommended Record Time in Ferndale, which is pretty good for electronic stuff (though I do miss the dance room)...I myself am looking for a new hang, since my former favorite place (Neptune Records) is no more...

This Best of from the Metro Times tells me that Encore in Ann Arbor, Record Time in Roseville, Memories and Melodies in Eastpoint, and Peoples Records in Detroit are the places to go. Any thoughts on these? Thanks for your help Henry, it seems this is a conversation between us. If others would like to chime in, that'd be welcome as well. Where am I gonna find a nice selection of Moodymann/Theo P vinyl?

The Detroit-proper shops are musts.

You could lose yourself in Encore for hours.

I haven't been to the Roseville Record Time since they shut the dance room. The Ferndale outpost has been good for browsing (especially if it's your first time and don't go twice within the same month), but it can be very hit-and-miss, unless you're deeply into King Britt all his barely-varying variants.

If you are strapped for time and want to limit your drive time, stay inside actual Detroit.

Thanks Andy. Valuable info. So by Detroit shops, you mean Peoples Records and Encore? I clearly have no knowledge of the city.

Encore's in Ann Arbor, roughly 45 miles outside Detroit.

Watch this, everybody:

An all-around beautiful event. Love to the people of Detroit (I didn't meet a single person who was less than exceedingly kind). Anyone else attend?
