You really should hear this! Basically, released somewhere alongside Hergest Ridge, basically a drunken singalong (care of David Beford, not the athlete or anyone connected with 118118 got yr number etc) and various pals on bottles and backing vocals.

I remember it well; it was on that Virgin sampler album which briefly did the rounds in early '75 and also featured Wyatt doing "Yesterday Man."

You know what? I just bought that very album!

The "Don" is longer than the original single. Poor ol RobWyatt!

Virgin: "Well done with "I'm a Believer" now do this one next!"
RobWy: "oh all right! Give it here!"

But "Yesterday Man" is great! I used to have access to this album but I never bothered playing the Mike Oldfield track

It is great.

Just not the greatest of ideas.

Mind you "Robert Wyatt sings the hits of the sixties" can go be a freebie on the Daily Express and we'll all celebrate.

Mind you, "Robert Wyatt sings the Telephone Directory" can go be a freebie on the Independant on Sunday and we'll all celebrate.

"On Horseback" is the best Mike Oldfield single since:
(a) his voice on it sounds like Tommy Cooper;
(b) he answers the chorus line "I'd rather be with you than flying through space" with an upward slide of his guitar indicating rockets taking off, and things.

Mike Oldfield Sings? Maybe it was Tommy Cooper, he was fond of using guest vocalists...

He talks it really, but sings the chorus, after a fashion.

Similar to "Froggy went a courting". He could have been the next Telly Savalas.

Poor old Telly - he had the ladies in the palm of his hand, and then he decided to "sing" the follow-up ("You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" - #49 with a comedy 100 TONS weight around its neck).

Not as much as he sang "Who loves yer, baby" in a voice that strained for the top notes that Barry White could do.

Even that wasn't as bad as the "WHO LOVES YA BABY AR-HAR-HAR" interjection two-thirds through the Wurzels' "comedy classic" number one hit "Combine Harvester Open Brackets Brand New Key Close Brackets Ten Points Dignified Don."
