PRINCES ANNOUNCE CONCERT FOR DIANA
By Mirror.co.uk
PRINCES William and Harry today officially confirmed a concert will take place in memory of their mother, Diana Princess of Wales.

The Concert for Diana will take place at the new Wembley Stadium on July 1, 2007 – what would have been the Princess’s 46th birthday - and will feature some of her and her sons’ favourite artists.

Names already confirmed include Elton John, Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry, Joss Stone, Pharrell Williams, The English National Ballet and a medley of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber shows.

Other major acts are expected to be announced shortly.

The Princes are taking a hands-on approach in organising the spectacle, which will be followed up by a memorial service in London on August 31, 2007 and attended by members of the Royal Family including The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall.

The celebrations are to mark the 10th anniversary of Diana's tragic death from a car crash in Paris.

Prince William revealed he and his brother wanted the gig to reflect their mother’s personality and was a gift to her.

He said: “We both wanted to put our stamp on it. We want it to represent exactly what our mother would have wanted. So therefore the church service alone isn’t enough.

“We wanted to have this big concert full of energy, full of the sort of fun and happiness which I know she would have wanted. And on her birthday as well, it’s got to be the best birthday present she ever had.”

Prince Harry said he was looking forward to the memorial service.

“The service is going to include both sides of the family, our mother’s side and our father’s side – everyone getting together. It should be a good occasion.”

Proceeds from the concert will go to charities the Princess supported at the time of her death and The Diana Memorial Fund, set up in her memory.

Two of the Princes’ charities - Centrepoint and Sentable - will also benefit.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning (Wednesday 13 December) at 9am and cost £45. There is no booking fee. Call Ticketmaster on 0844 725 0107 or visit the official website at www.concertfordiana.com for more information.

The event will also be shown live on TV and online.
