They didn't make my Top 50 list either.

Pretty poor, considering they came third in my 2003 list.

Solution: start making decent records again!

Man, he's in Bristol and he's sitting around wah-wahing about some fucking music magazine instead of going to Shake King? ?uestlove = man with fucked up priorities.

Whatever dude. TFA is still one of my favorite records ever, and I'd be really surprised if I listened to Phrenology more than five times. Never did hear the Tipping Point.

Game Theory is one of their best albums yet, no question. found all the tributes to Dilla really moving and non-mawkish, too. really bummed i missed them last night at Brixton.

39. KID KOALA: Your Mom’s Favorite DJ
His Carpal Tunnel Syndrome debut I will always associate with the late spring Monday morning in Abingdon when I bought it – it made me laugh as so much earnest post-Shadow DJ cybernetics were singularly failing to yield any humour (has there ever been a deader end in music than UNKLE’s Psyence Fiction?). However, the Montreal maestro’s bona fide debut, the Scratchcratchratchatch mixtape which he only ever intended as a demo, is reportedly his masterpiece – two fifteen-minute long sides of scratching and sampling antics which have never been given a formal release. Your Mom’s Favorite DJ is an attempt to recapture and update that record’s jouissance, deploying the same format, and it’s fantastic; an aural slippage of fragments, beats and, in the various “Slew Test” takes, startlingly avant-garde, like the Red Krayola smooching the Antipop Consortium (and better than either). However, the general mood is one of zippy, nippy playfulness; and I note from the CD booklet that Kid Koala is willing to provide mixtapes for weddings free of charge. I wonder if he would be interested in doing a mix for ours…?

martian parodies aren't funny unless done by gareth or ronan. it's annoying but we all just have to accept this and move on.

StanM (StanM), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

can someone start a FAQ thread were old Ilxor names = Nu Ilxor names

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

It's pretty simple - The Roots have kept rolling on because of critical acclaim, ?uestlove is obsessive when it comes to musical canon, history, and details like lists. Same guy that writes a small novel to put in the liner notes of his band's albums. I can see where Mojo would be one of his favorites and why it'd be depressing.

Any chance ?uestlove could be kidding? I mean "if I'm honest with myself I make these records almost more for the critics than for the fans" is the opposite of what artists usually say in public.

giggle at his arrogance

yeah... i mean, you can be proud of your album all you want, but expecting to win an award (and pouting when you don't) seems a tad hubristic. the MOJO poll is assembled from top tens submitted by all contributors. i loved Game Theory, but it wasn't on my list - there were at least ten better records this year, in my opinion, is all.

Stop injecting expired steroids, dude.

BTW I think Game Theory was mediocre at best. But hey who am I to critize a record? I'm from Belgium and know fuck all about Rap (or Pop, or Rock, or...).
