Oh and "Let's Spend the Night Together" being the only Stones cover that surpasses the original. And sounding like it was made in 2013. Still.

"Lady Grinning Soul" = omgwtf piano ring ring ring last orders high and dry on the empty street with yr hangover ringing in yr ears and the greatest fuck of your life behind you everything finished everything

I love this record but it's about the 4th best Bowie album

Jaufre Rudel (Jaufre Rudel), Sunday, 10 December 2006 13:59 (seventeen years ago) link

You're entitled to your wrong opinion.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Sunday, 10 December 2006 14:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Naaaaaah.

Nice Esteban Buttez (King Esteban), Sunday, 10 December 2006 14:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, the facepaint sucked.

Nice Esteban Buttez (King Esteban), Sunday, 10 December 2006 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Your disdain pretty much strengthens my argument, dude.

Fat Lady Wrestler (Modal Fugue), Sunday, 10 December 2006 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, my total lack of credibility does help your argument! But I assure you that the facepaint will cancel that out!

Nice Esteban Buttez (King Esteban), Sunday, 10 December 2006 15:15 (seventeen years ago) link

The guitar intro to "Cracked Actor" is a real marvel.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 10 December 2006 15:47 (seventeen years ago) link

i think this record is probably the pre-low album I listen to the most. it's pretty compact in that I don't think any of th songs on it are filler. certainly the highpoint of the spiders band.

akm (akmonday), Sunday, 10 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

both Diamond Dogs & Young Americans are better

Jaufre Rudel (Jaufre Rudel), Sunday, 10 December 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

My fave Bowie as well. One of the fist LPs I bought (now 30+ years old). And a shout-out to Mick Garson, whose piano in the title cut chills me every time I hear it.

nickn (nickn), Monday, 11 December 2006 02:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I used to have this on vinyl. I don't anymore. So can I call the record delivery service and have it delivered on a bike to my home right now?

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 11 December 2006 02:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Its pleasing melodicsism of the album is mared by sloppy arrangements, particularly the out-of-tune sax of funs on "Drive Me Saturdays" and the title track would have been good and drive had it not been for someone letting the monkey into the studio to bang piano random throughout. If Rick Wakemen had been producer he never will allow it. Also "Lady Grinning Souls" is a poor ripoff of Hothouse Flowers.

you are a nutter

akm (akmonday), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:45 (seventeen years ago) link

No you are the a nutter, for you fail to distinguish Gene the Genie from the Blockbusters that it copies to minimum avail.

Thankfully Bowie recovered from this career fall to return with a far more stronger set of songs on Pin Me Up. See Emily's Plays is one of the finest songs he ever wrote.

drive-in saturday one of the best bowies.

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Monday, 11 December 2006 16:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Driving Saturdays is one of Bowies worse, worsted only by Hey DJ and Spatial Abnormalities.

"Panic In Detroit" is Bowie's greatest concoction ever

Monty Von Bygone (Monty Von Bygone), Monday, 11 December 2006 19:34 (seventeen years ago) link

The congas on "Panic in Detroit" alone.
