siouxsie remasters: bad as they say?

are these really as terrible as the amazon.co.uk reviews would have me believe? audio drop outs in various channels, wrong fades, general crappiness?

wondering because a fair number of them are on ebay, and I impulsively bought kaleidoscope, then went and read that it sounds awful. so i'm not sure if i should get rid of my geffen pressing.

I still only have the double-disc The Scream from these but that sounded perfectly fine to me.

The single-disc Scream: clipping galore.

is there a difference b/w the single and the double disc editions?

Definitely

This won't give you the full effect, but it should give you an indication. Samples:

"Metal Postcard" [from the single-disc remaster]

"Metal Postcard" [from the two-disc remaster]

Ah, those error messages meant nothing.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Saturday, 9 December 2006 15:55 (seventeen years ago) link

that's weird that they'd be different. why are they different?

my single disc Scream remaster sounds loud and distorted. I am not impressed.

Are there problems with any of the others or is it just the single-disc Scream?

i would really like to hear/have the 12" mix of peep show sometime soon. hint hint.

the amazon.co.uk reviews of all the remasters so far are fairly negative and point out problems like dropped audio and incorrect fades.

i'm really surprised that bands allow this kind of thing to happen. I mean in theory aren't severin and siouxsie listening to these and okaying them before they go out? do they really not know their own music well enough (or care enough) that things are fading out in the wrong place, etc? or are the negative reviews just by overzealous mastering engineers with much better ears than anyone else?

okay, kaleidoscope finally arrived and it sounds great. no clipping or distortion.
