Clinic cancel show after student threats

Clinic have been forced to cancel their show at Central St Martin's in London after students threatened to stage a sit-in if it went ahead.

The concert was due to take place on December 14, and was also set to feature These New Puritans and The Archie Bronson Outfit.

However the show was pulled because, according to a statement, "A small minority of students...saw the show as a perceived disruption to their studies and were threatening to stage a sit-in protest."

A replacement for the show will be announced at a later date. A full refund is available from point of purchase.

The band are set to release their single 'If You Could Read Your Mind' on February 5.

I expect they could do with the publicity - compelling single title.

is there any real explanation besides the kids wanted to study? I'm not very familiar with St. Martin's is it a small enough school that a Clinic show would bother people?

What the hell.

Clinic's records have been underselling of late and they need some "controversy" to maximise sales of their last album and forthcoming single.

never exactly an 'overselling' band; amazed they still going tbqh.

Bands have terrible names these days. These New Puritans - The Archie Bronson Outfit - what is this, Camden Underworld 1991?

haven't yet heard the single, but it makes me imagine Clinic covering Jim Croce...(which by extension makes me chuckle)...

do they still rock those surgical masks?...

It's actually Clinic covering themselves. They're like the Stereolab of garage-dub-beatnik-dance-rock. (not necc. being pejorative here.)

It's just like 1968 but a bit quiter.

The thing is, if they need to study so bad that night, why are they going to a noisy club that night to protest. They wouldn't get any studying done like that, regardless of whether or not Clinic played. So maybe the ones who agreed to do the sit-in were doing it in support of friends who had to study that night? And why don't the people who want to study go the library, instead? Unless - was the Clinic show supposed to be in the Library?!

SCANDALOUS!

It's impossible to do anything at a university without some students protesting about it. I'm kind of amazed anyone thinks this is newsworthy or surprising.

(From the mindset that brought you the current season of Veronica Mars, it's ... PCU, starring Jeremy Piven, David Spade, and Matt DC!)
