So I've got this: ihttp://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B00081T4QC.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V1118269701_.jpg

and this:

And while the Inner Life sounds pretty okay and is a great package all around n terms of everything compiled (as most of the Salsoul/Suss'd collections seem to be), the Levan comp sounds like straight 128kbps or lower tracks burned to cd. No low end, sometimes deafening high end, and altogether poor sound quality. Nothing sounds balanced. So what I'm wondering is if others notice this, if all the Salsouls/Suss'd releases are like this, and if the non-Suss'd-affiliated Salsoul cd releases have the same issues. Like this:

I can't think of a more cluttered reissue campaign than Salsoul/Suss'd has done this decade. I have found sound quality a bit erratic as well, and besides the artist comps, there seems to no rhyme or reason to their compilations/DJ mixes besides a generic theme. There isn't too much difference between "Disco Funk Flavas," "Latin Funk Flavas," "Philly Soul Flavas," etc. And there is definite overlapping of tracks here are there, which is annoying too.

No complaints about the Walter Gibbons box set though.

Which is good to hear, as I snagged that in the Tower implosion.

some d00d on real ILX suggested that it was indeed compiled with mp3s found via filesharing.

Yeah, someone in the comments on the discogs page for it seems to think he has "proven" it:

So Michael and Ned, is the sound quality good on the Walter Gibbons set? And does anyone know if all Salsoul releases are now going through Suss'd? Cause the non-Suss'd ones linked above seem to be a bit old.

The sound on the WG set is decent, at least to these ears. I'm not entirely convinced original masters were the source for much of the set.
