excellent album, one of my favorites of the year by far

I like the record, tho 'laptop' isn't something I'd use to describe it

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 8 December 2006 04:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Great album.
if the laptop thing is about the Fiery Furnaces influence - youre right.
but theres more (Helium,Free Design and all the regular Deerhoof stuff)

john lang (emekars), Friday, 8 December 2006 06:33 (seventeen years ago) link

that was more in reference to some of the horn/string sample stuff - tho yeah I def hear both Helium and Free Design in there too

they've been massively pro tooled out for several albums now, people are only noticing now because they're adding library samples in addition to chopping up their own instruments

deerhoof: screwed and chopped would be sweet.

there was a good interview with them in one of the recent tapeops where they talked about their mixing and mastering process.

I dunno I started noticing severe pro-tooling around the time of "Apple O'" (ie the first deerhoof album I heard)

Is it online?

its funny that they're so into that shit cuz when I saw them live (sans pro-tooling) I enjoyed them much more than on record

I love the sound on the new Deerhoof record -- it does sound quite "artificial", but in a very cool way for me, like hearing a faberge egg version of the band. Every piece of sound is crafted and compressed into this little colorful package that seems brittle, but also really sweet.

They're a weird band for me. I only have one record (Reveille), and I haven't listened to it much (twice), but I really want to like them.

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 8 December 2006 21:37 (seventeen years ago) link

i don't know if it's online or not. I'll look. I think it was from the last issue (not the most recent one).

it isn't
