Going by the tracklisting he certainly rates this Jay Haze fellow.

Fuckpony too, whoever they are...

not that it's a problem for Jeff Mills but... I haven't heard this.

I miss random googlers and real ILX :'(

I have it but have only listened a little...am interviewing him this afternoon...

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 December 2006 11:21 (seventeen years ago) link

ask him what he thinks of michael mayer!

Venom 18, the autistic spy (flezaffe), Friday, 8 December 2006 11:23 (seventeen years ago) link

is it true they have beef? i just read on his myspace some comment praising him for speaking out against the cologne minimal mafia...

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:09 (seventeen years ago) link

apparently mayer asked a kompakt-distributed label to stop releasing hazes stuff and told haze to get a job instead of trying to live off making music. which ticked haze off quite a bit.

Venom 18, the autistic spy (flezaffe), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:38 (seventeen years ago) link

jesus...that is weird...i mean there are definitely some labels that are just poles apart, eg kompakt/tuning spork, but that's quite funny. "get a job"

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 December 2006 12:43 (seventeen years ago) link

wow...fascinating interview....lots of interesting stuff...

"apparently mayer asked a kompakt-distributed label to stop releasing hazes stuff and told haze to get a job instead of trying to live off making music"

why?

braveclub (braveclub), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:09 (seventeen years ago) link

i think it had something to do with quality control?

Venom 18, the autistic spy (flezaffe), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:15 (seventeen years ago) link

i figured it had something to do with michael mayer's gargantuan ego

friday on the porch (lfam), Friday, 8 December 2006 14:44 (seventeen years ago) link

hey Ronan, what interview?

mh. (mike h.), Friday, 8 December 2006 15:13 (seventeen years ago) link

am interviewing him this afternoon...

-- Ronan (ronan.fitzgerald...), December 8th, 2006.

Aside from maybe the few that have high-up positions in Kompakt, I really wonder how many of them have 'jobs'rather than live off music.

mehlt (mehlt), Friday, 8 December 2006 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah seems an odd criticism....anyway I didn't bring this up in the interview, which is for flavorpill, that's not to say it wasn't mentioned though!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I have the Jay Haze double mix but I haven't listened to it that much actually - it's more minimal than it is housey and I prefer the Haze style at its housier end. I've listened to the Tuning Spork download sets a lot more.

Tim F (Tim F), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:49 (seventeen years ago) link

this is great fun and quite housey i think, at least disc 1 is. "soul in a bottle" is the sickness.

rio natsume (rio natsume), Tuesday, 12 December 2006 03:19 (seventeen years ago) link

ok so disc 2 is the shit, v. housey and upfront with it, lot's of vocals, wide open hi hats and chunky thug drums. get's more minimal as it goes on but maintains its funkiness. i like.
