Any fans of 'Homework' era Daft Punk on here? "Teachers" from Brian Wilson to Todd Edwards.

Don't see much evidence of Daft Punk love on here (although I know there was on ILM back in the day).

Anyway, here's a 42 track mix of the artists that influenced 'Homework' - mostly mid 90s Chicago house from the likes of Boo Williams and Glenn Underground but lots of other stuff from NY/Detroit/Paris/Frankfurt too - and the Brian Wilson quote from the Homework liner notes ("Music is God's voice")!

And it's really, really good (even though I say so myself).

Apologies for the self-promotion but this thing took me literally months to put together and apart from djhistory.com and a few other places, the likely audience is pretty limited.

Hope some of y'all enjoy - tracklisting below.

Yeah this is great, passed some time at work earlier this week, going to have to try and track down some of the individual tracks. '90s house/techno largely passed me by at the time so catching up is always fun.

Killer tracklisting. Daft Punk for me are a case of great band, shame about all the dross they've influenced in the last 10 years.

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 22 December 2011 15:12 (twelve years ago) link

I like this mix, but what I'd like even better a full-length redux of it. Seems like there's a 3 hour mix in there trying to get out. Great work putting it together!

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 22 December 2011 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

Hi folks.

Great to see some of you are enjoying it.

Makes me feel less of a freak for spending months making it....

Chewshabadoo - you have no idea how right you are - in fact there's a 13 hour mix trying to get out - cutting it down to an hour was a very painful process.

Happily, it has been really well received on the couple of forums I've posted it on such as DJHistory.

Bizarrely enough, the only forum where people were utterly indifferent was thedaftclub.com, even though the site owner was kind enough to do a news item on it.

Daftclub peeps seem to be much more interested in exchanging tips on making Daft Punk helmets and the like - not that there's anything wrong with that, but I was just surprised that they couldn't give a shit.

Anyway, hope a few more people have a listen!

Boognotic, Friday, 23 December 2011 00:28 (twelve years ago) link

Oh wow, this is a great idea and I'll probably try to listen to this (I know what it's like to slave over mixes to little to no response, but not with such effort!)

this is sweet man, thx!

weird that they lead off with 'spanker' johnson, ex-editor of the new statesman and legendary apostate of the left.

― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:25 (4 years ago) Permalink

genius idea for a thread. i remember trying to find out who half these guys were when i was 15.

i'm gonna go with dave clarke, i've seen him play some cracking sets.

Is "Armani" = Robert Armani?

― Tuomas, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:46 (4 years ago) Permalink

Carl Craig is in the house yeah

― admrl, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 21:55 (4 years ago) Permalink

Uh certainly Sir John = Surgeon, right?

I wish they had a whole lot more of these guys' influence in their more recent work but maybe I'm in the minority.

I want to vote for Deeon or Rush or Waxmaster, but honestly Jeff Mills has probably influenced me and my tastes more than anyone on the list.

― sous les paves, Wednesday, 31 October 2007 22:32 (4 years ago) Permalink

i had the impression for some reason that (w/ the exception of brian wilson, dr dre and george clinton) it was a list of people they'd performed with

They at played tons of raves in the Midwest in the mid 90's (before Homework came out) with a whole lot of the guys on this list (all the Chicago/Detroit dudes) so I always took the song to be a tribute to that period/scene.

i voted for dj slugo exclusively due to their awesome mispronunciation of his name. i love this track, its all about the extended mix on the flip of the one 12" for "around the world". DP were so much better when they just tried to rip off chicago house.....

Every new Daft Punk album/tour has had a lot of related talk on ilm! And most of those people are still on ilx, although not many are posting on the sandbox.

I think you drastically underrate the love for Daft Punk around here.

yeah asking "Any fans of 'Homework' era Daft Punk on here?" is like the ilx equivalent of "does a bear shit in the woods?"
