Absolutely lovely indeed. I haven't been paying attn to UK Funky for a hot minute but this is as good a place as any to dive back in.

What's the first song on the LR_Groove__DJ_Eastwood_Dj_Vu--Sonic_Router_Mix_96, you know the one? The mix has worn on me (despite some really good parts) but I really like that song (or funky remix of whatever the original was).

The "spiraling spiraling spiraling" one.

Occidental Rudipherous, Sunday, 18 December 2011 17:45 (twelve years ago) link

haven't heard that mix but i would guess it's andy jay & s-tee ft charlene 'spiralling'

Ooooo, definitely voting for that.

"Sensitivity" aside, do we have any great vocal tracks from 2011 as good as "Frontline" or "Do You Mind?" I love the girly r&b stuff far more than the MC-led stuff and I feel totally out of the loop, keeping up with radio shows and their hard-to-follow never-filled tracklistings is difficult, and much as I love this music I never get to hear it out locally.

Yes:

Fuzzy Logik & Myshy's "Playground"
Natalie May's "Clothes Off"
Scottie B's "Feel Nice, Feel Right"
Hannah Liston, "The Middle (Dumplin Remix)" (this is unreleased though)

Granted, that's much less than the number of top-shelf vocal tracks from 2008-2010.

But - unlike for 2010 - I wouldn't argue with the proposition that funky fell off its A-game this year.

Hannah Liston, "The Middle (Dumplin Remix)"

^this really is amazing, still listen that andy jay & s-tee mix regularly

cosign tim's choices except the unreleased one that i haven't heard, but swindle & roses gabor "spend is dough" was probably my favourite uk funky track of 2011

oh if it's on that mix then i have heard it, i just don't know which one it is

Lex it's the one you said that you really really needed a copy of immediately.

I tend not to remember that "Spend Is Dough" is funky and that's not a dis cos I think it's fantastic. In my head it's kind of a classic melting pot tune - although there's no reason for it not to be considered funky either.

Miss Fire & DJ Naughty - Closer

Is a well nice vocal track from this year, it was free too. I think Miss Fire had another too, but it's slipped my mind.

I know this isn't funky but has this been talked about on ILM?
