rolling dancehall in the sandbox

thought I'd start this after hearing a couple new pretty great Busy Signal tracks. Kind of wish he kept up the insane autotuned/vocoded whine the whole song:

A shade less into this one, though I like the production by Jon FX:

not exactly dancehall news, but I thought this might be of interest:

really feeling that first busy track -- like my favorite part of "duppy know who fi frighten" was when he goes into the higher register. in demarco's track it makes the whole thing somehow much more menacing, in this it's used differently but still a very cool effect.

also too bad ilx wasn't up for the whole "vybz kartel prison break" fiasco, that was hilarious

lol yeah, the other day I was amusing myself by imagining VK in a police lineup.

at this point i'm convinced vybz is a 2pac-like figure that puts cryptic references to his inevitable imprisonment in every song he does. granted it doesn't help that hes basically data from tng

I think Ward 21 producing female vocalists might be my favorite thing in dancehall right now. Natalie Storm:

I guess that came out back in April, but i've been obsessed with Gimme 60, Make Up Sex, and Bubble Like Soup lately

looks like mavado's getting a pretty big crossover push from his new label. well deserved too, his output this year's been incredible. not to mention he's basically spearheaded some of the biggest riddims this year, overproof being the most obvious example

Popcaan has been killing it this year, very excited to hear what he does in 2012.
