so, are we going to act like the LCD Soundsystem album didn't leak?

Because it did. Almost four months before the release date. (Who the hell sends out/needs review copies this early?)

StanM (StanM), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

um, print media dawg.

blackmailismylife (blackmailismylife), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

4 months? Wasn't it always like, 6-8 weeks?

StanM (StanM), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

as I recall, the promo was download only -- but isn't that even easier to leak than a CD copy?

Dominique (dleone), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not posting to this thread in case the DFA lawyers hunt me down and KILL me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

I only read about it on the DFA forum.

friday on the porch (lfam), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

hey i hope one day that britney track comes out because, as far as i or anyone else on ilm knows (or ever knew) that, uh, never has been heard anywhere, yeah.

sterl clover (s_clover), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Was it called Monkey Butt?

StanM (StanM), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:14 (nineteen years ago)

OMG I found a download link and it's great! It has like 5 long tracks with strings and a woman singing in a very high voice and a harp or something but it rules!

StanM (StanM), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:15 (nineteen years ago)

Is the album any good then? Bearing in mind that I disliked the first album but liked the Nike thing. Don't want to waste ratio on it.

jim (jim), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

The people who've heard it over here seem to think it is, but then they are the fans, of course:

i figured it would leak by thanksgiving, guess i was off

friday on the porch (lfam), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

If I downloaded it, it would be better than their first one.

OJ_M (StanM), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

oh my. the first track is very bowie-tastic.

ChristoC (Christo C), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

Don't want to waste ratio on it.

Reason #4947 that BT sux-a-lot. It discourages idle curiosity or anything that might have a negative impact on "ratio".

same, and i am so far liking this. "someone great" makes a whole song out of one of the 45:33 sections

New York I Love You would be the best musical emo track i'd ever heard had i actually downloaded this illegally before it came out

track list, timings and song by song annotation please?

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 19:37 (nineteen years ago)

I can't get over how good "someone great" is. I'm really surprised.

toby (tsg20), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 19:57 (nineteen years ago)

Haha, that DFA forum thread:

i know what you mean. i was pretty bummed when i found out that it leaked SO EARLY. when my friend texted me, my jaw kind of dropped, but i just couldn't resist downloading it and i'm in love.

C0L1N B... (C0L1N B...), Thursday, 7 December 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

"Someone Great" doesn't do it for me - I just don't dig the vocal at all, don't think it adds anything to the track. "All My Friends" on the other hand is great, a totally unexpected slice of alt rock/indie schmindie really, with guitars 'n' everything.

I have no problem with artists getting bummed out at this kind of thing... I'm just surprised they aren't more aware that ONCE IT'S OUT, IT'S *OUT* though. It's not unusual for records to leak instantly anymore. Too much faith in human nature I guess.

I keep seeing the thread title as "so, are we going to act like the LCD Soundsystem album didn't suck?" which probably says something about me, or ILM. But I'll stop snarking (I haven't downloaded btw).

Da Mystery of Sandboxin' (fandango), Thursday, 7 December 2006 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

this is some kind of record though isn't it?

YSI ? (only joking)

pisces (pisces), Thursday, 7 December 2006 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Well, in the "Orchestra Of Bubbles" thread that leaked before some people's review copies even arrived by post(!) so no, it's not a record, which is to say you can't get any faster once stuff begins to leak AS SOON as it's sent out.

Da Mystery of Sandboxin' (fandango), Thursday, 7 December 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

haha! i hadn't heard that *although* that reminds me -
HAIL TO THE THIEF was recorded then leaked before being mixed and mastered. the early unfinished versions are better than the finished product in some cases.

pisces (pisces), Thursday, 7 December 2006 13:35 (nineteen years ago)

I stand corrected! :D

Da Mystery of Sandboxin' (fandango), Thursday, 7 December 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

parody thread titles are played out, but it's really hard to resist starting one called "so, are we going to act like the LCD Soundsystem album didn't suck?"

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 7 December 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

I hear a lot of New Order in that track.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Thursday, 7 December 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

i have no p2p right now and DFA has done a remarkable job at hitting every blog that leaked tracks in the last few days.

i am really loving this album.

t0dd swiss (immobilisme), Friday, 8 December 2006 07:56 (nineteen years ago)

Just like the first time, I think they should have just added half the bonus CD to the main album.

StanM (StanM), Friday, 8 December 2006 10:03 (nineteen years ago)

srsly- ysi?

grady (grady), Saturday, 9 December 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

man, "New York I Love You" is so great and different for them. it starts off w/something from beach boys's 'friends' and then into a mix of berlin/transformer lou reed and maybe pavement and then ends w/some weirdo emo shit.

jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 9 December 2006 00:51 (nineteen years ago)

Apart from 'All My Friends' I really do not like this album. Disappointing as I loved 45:33.

33:45 maybe?

grady (grady), Sunday, 10 December 2006 08:24 (nineteen years ago)

Yes I know I'm going to listen to it in a minute here, if only I didn't have such a Beatles fetish...

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Sunday, 10 December 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

I was just kidding about that bonus CD, by the way. I thought nobody was falling for it, but thanks for still doing so :-)

StanM (StanM), Sunday, 10 December 2006 10:54 (nineteen years ago)

I love the new Station To Station voice on Get Innocuous. I get a bit tired of the standard nasal JM tones sometimes. I also love the "coming up" choir tones of the title track. Reminds me of the DFA remix of UNKLE's In A State. Not so fond of Time To Get Away and Us Vs Them.

I have half an idea New York I Love You might be a terrible idea, but it somehow manages to get me pretty bad.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 10 December 2006 13:52 (nineteen years ago)

otm.

so which ones are getting the remix treatment? and by who?

grady (grady), Sunday, 10 December 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

which ones are getting the remix treatment

is this what we've become? YES

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 10 December 2006 23:40 (nineteen years ago)

I find myself resolutely not wanting to admit how great this album is. Just don't want to admit it. He really is taking his vocals seriously now isn't he? God, why did I have to wait until Sunday night to play this damn thing? It makes me want to take off work tomorrow.

I love that shit about the Silver Teenager, you know man. That is the shit. And "All My Friends" is like the one track that calls New Order to mind for some reason, just like "Tribulations" was on the last one.

And if my friend in New York never hears "New York, I love you..." then I'll kick his arse, for the serious.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 11 December 2006 02:32 (nineteen years ago)

He makes it seem too easy. Why aren't there other acts doing this? Where is everyone else's heads at? I need to have "North American Scum" in my life, man. I NEED that shit.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 11 December 2006 02:36 (nineteen years ago)

Also please tell me "Someone Great" is about John Peel. Thanks.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 11 December 2006 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

We'll have to ask James, I guess. It could be about an old girlfriend, but it does sound like it could be about a dead friend, too. Anyone's guess.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 03:25 (nineteen years ago)

And "All My Friends" is like the one track that calls New Order to mind for some reason

Reason is obvious. Drums, bass, with this loping rhythm guitar just for color. Kind of this Only-New-Order combination.

"We set controls for the heart of the sun / One of the ways that we show our age."

Love.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

my pet theory is that someone great is about a miscarriage

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Monday, 11 December 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

but i really kinda think it is about a dead friend.

hank s1ockli (hanks1ockli), Monday, 11 December 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

Missing the arguments they had while locked in the basement? Yeah. The only kind of locked in the basement arguing is about records.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 03:45 (nineteen years ago)

Reason is obvious. Drums, bass, with this loping rhythm guitar just for color. Kind of this Only-New-Order combination.

Hmm...I thought maybe it had the same notes as Ceremony or something like that, same notes as some other NO song. I'm not enough of a muso to figure that out, though. At least, not right now.

Bimbler (Sourkraut), Monday, 11 December 2006 04:24 (nineteen years ago)

I'm no huge muso, but I know New Order when I hear it.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 04:56 (nineteen years ago)

i wish he wouldn't sing. it really ruins the music

jergins (jergins), Monday, 11 December 2006 05:12 (nineteen years ago)

you are so incredibly wrong right now.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 05:19 (nineteen years ago)

is this about the condos or about us or about his voice?

jergins (jergins), Monday, 11 December 2006 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

heh. it's not about the condos. And his "voice" is hardly the issue. No one is claiming the guy is Sinatra or anything.

His vocals are sloppy, but they're also almost always winking and knowing and totally appropriate to what he's saying.

whoop de doodle (kenan), Monday, 11 December 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

do you mean they are ironically bad?

friday on the porch (lfam), Monday, 11 December 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)
