sometimes after a tough week i sit back and have a drink and reflect on life's simple pleasures, such as knowing that no matter what happens i'll probably always be happier and more secure than whiney.

oh man, listen to this from wikipedia
The Christmas-themed episode is a musical featuring original songs performed by cast members. After Greendale's glee club members become incapacitated, the study group are asked to join. Despite their dislike of the club, each of them are lured into joining after their vulnerabilities are exploited. The episode features multiple jokes at the expense of the television series Glee.

how many sbs did whiney dodge in this thread you think
― good webinar (ha ha I'm having a fantasy), Saturday, 10 December 2011 03:43 (twelve years ago) link
most of the show is pretty trad character-driven sitcom stuff modeled after Cheers more than anything else, there are a decent number of 4th wall jokes but i don't feel like that's the thing people most like the show for.
actually if you ever decide to force yourself to sit through one full episode of the show i would recommend s2e5 since the whole thing is basically making fun of/criticizing charlie kaufman-style meta for meta's sake

like it's literally insane that you're pretending as if 'referential' comedy is completely offensive to you on every level considering how you form every single joke you make

actually ship, I watched the entire first episode of Community

i think it's really funny that someone who hates this show so much has read all this stuff about it on the internet so he can bitch about the meta content. meanwhile i like this show well enough (it's one of three things on tv that my gf and i can agree on) and have literally never read anything about it other than the ilx thread and never understand the references unless someone irl explains them to me.

first ep was far from their best but i'm not gonna front like it's a 100% different show now or anything

While performing "Baby Boomer Santa", Troy and Abed recreate musical styles from the 1940s to 1980s, including performing "Dancing in the Dark" and Troy impersonating Bob Dylan.[1][5]

is there a succinct word or phrase for when you don't interact with a piece of media directly, but you find pleasure in keeping tabs on it indirectly? like whiney itt, or like how i can't watch a republican debate without wanting to die inside but i'll read people live-blogging one with great enjoyment.

whiney's hating of community for doing what the simpsons has made every show do, also on a christmas episode, is hilar
all christmas episodes of tv usually suck
― big popppa hoy, Saturday, 10 December 2011 10:50 (twelve years ago) link
Community's christmas episodes are awesome! the claymation one was a tad disappointing based on the hype, but the one with Anthony Michael Hall as the 'bully' was all time.

the one where minor community characters sing "carol of the bells" using their catchphrases? can't believe anyone could muster up a stronger sentiment than "eh, dorky" tbh

Asian dude chanting "CHANG CHANG CHANG CHANG" doesn't seem at all off to you?

Not if you speak his Changuage
― C-L, Sunday, 11 December 2011 05:46 (twelve years ago) link
Um, i get the Senor Chang schtick. Is the joke that if you put a layer of irony on top of it, it's okay to be just a bit racist on national television? Scratch that, I'm aware that's the case. i'm asking if it doesn't ring a little off to you. I kinda dislike everything i've ever seen jeong in really; dude reminds me of jim carrey.

huh, it honestly didn't occur to me that him chanting "chang" could be construed as racist -- he's been doing the puns on his name for two seasons now
