Wikipedia doesn't believe it yet and thinks they're the only source about it : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shocking_Blue

In 1968, Mariska Veres (b. October 1, 1947 d. December 2?????, 2006?????) replaced Fred de Wilde as lead singer.

Note: Wikipedia is the ONLY source currenty reporting Mariska Veres's passing. Until and unless there is independent confirmation from a totally different RELIABLE source -- either a website, a news organization or a recording artist who worked with Mariska -- this should NOT be construed as fact.

There is not a single Mariska Veres website that even states that she has been ill, much less died.

Please people, act responsibly.

I love Shocking Blue as much as you do.

Thank you.

But here are the (Dutch) headlines about it:

Damn, RIP

The Shocking Blue were one of my favorite discoveries of the past year. Lots of great, rockin' singles. It's kind of odd that they've never gotten a critical re-evaluation like so much other music of the era has. Maybe the "One Hit Wonder" tag held them back. But still, WHAT A HIT! And there was more from where that came from.

There isn't an actual clip for "Send Me A Postcard" up on youtube other than this (pretty nice) fan video:

But apparently Ladytron has been doing the song live. Here's the best clip (quality-wise), from a gig in Houston about 6 weeks ago:
