I saw BS at the Ottobar in like 2002

i missed that and the slick rick show goddamit

do u remember when m.o.p. played there lol

amon (amon), Monday, 19 February 2007 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

actually it was m.o.p. & cormega. apparently club "security" was shitting their pants that night

and now the rap shows are at sonar. the end.

amon (amon), Monday, 19 February 2007 17:28 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah the Black Sheep show wasn't too crowded or hectic but I've never seen the Ottobar staff more freaked out than at the big local rap showcase in '05 where the Bossman/Mullyman beef jumped off. I guess when most of your clientele is 90 lb. indie rockers your security detail is easily shook.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Monday, 19 February 2007 17:53 (seventeen years ago) link

and what (ooo), Monday, 19 February 2007 18:00 (seventeen years ago) link

haha yeah there've been a few of those that I've been tempted to check out but haven't -- don't you have to sign up for a mailing list or some other shady shit to get in?

i saw both the raekwon and big daddy kane ones and they were great. crowd was proper fun non-indie rock/undie rap (read what you want into that) for the most part and sonar has the killer sound system anyway. they say you have sign up on the site to get on the list to get in but it turns out its not required. you just write your name and email at the door.

amon (amon), Monday, 19 February 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

so i just wrote ned's name and email

amon (amon), Monday, 19 February 2007 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

i signed up for the emails but the only emails i get are about upcoming free scion shows!!

amon (amon), Monday, 19 February 2007 18:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't tell you how disappointed I am that the weird animated banner ad of Sage Francis yelling that was on Pitchfork last week doesn't seem to be there anymore.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Monday, 19 February 2007 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

scion shows, like most underground shows in atlanta, just seem to be full of 30-something dudes who moved down here from nyc in the mid 90s and miss the native tongues era

and what (ooo), Monday, 19 February 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Al where is your scion wristband

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Monday, 19 February 2007 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

i had written 'dudes' but decided to switch it up

deej (deej), Monday, 19 February 2007 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Does anyone hate the Game as much as me? Every song is either just name-dropping over beats or an angsty love letter to Dr. Dre.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 19 February 2007 20:35 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah I totally don't buy the narrative that being a self-contradictory studio gangsta who can't keep his story straight for two interviews in a row suddenly makes him a complex, fascinating character in spite of his subpar rapping.

Al (Alex In Baltimore), Monday, 19 February 2007 20:56 (seventeen years ago) link

the game needs a hug.

i like his single and everything.

i think he's okay, based on what i've heard. i kept meaning to dl dr. advocate.

just m@tt he1g3s0n (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 19 February 2007 21:05 (seventeen years ago) link

The "complex, fascinating contradictory character" argument makes his album seem way more boring than it actually is.

deej (deej), Monday, 19 February 2007 21:16 (seventeen years ago) link

i like that song about turning the street into a strip club.

just m@tt he1g3s0n (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 19 February 2007 21:19 (seventeen years ago) link

i like it because its basically a Dr. Dre tribute album, and I mean that in terms of the sound of the music, not the weak actual-tribute to Dr. Dre where the Game cries.
