Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 1 December 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

It was always more about the "TOTP appearance" anyway!

I remember when that came out, and cost something like 40 bucks, which was a lot at the time...I used to just drool over it at the record store, but just couldn't part with that much scratch at the time...(now I have the CD replica, but it 'taint the same)...

henry s (henry s), Friday, 1 December 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

It came out on the very week I got paid for the first time.

I debated and debated, the weeks going up to it coming out, should I? It's expensive!

I did. Money's worth. Hooray.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Friday, 1 December 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

There was a recent vinyl reissue in the metal box. If I owned a better record player it's be at the top of my Xmas list.

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 1 December 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

"it'd"

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Friday, 1 December 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Mine looks terrible now...it's gone kinda rusty.

Bought in Regent Records in Leamington Spa - I remember waiting months for it - I had to pay a deposit as well. I'm sure it's release was delayed for some reason.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Friday, 1 December 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

Damn - I can't get the hang of images...what am i doing wrong?
This is what I typed in

...with pointy parenthesis on either end...

One more go...

The pic is here anyway...

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Friday, 1 December 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

woah!...that's a rusty scupper, to be sure...wears about as well as that Spectrum LP with the oil-engorged plastic sleeve...(or the Alice Cooper Muscle Of Love cardboard box...buyer beware the uniquely-packaged record)...

The Lex is screwing with us again!

[electric sound of] esteban buttez (Estie Buttez), Sunday, 3 December 2006 02:46 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks nuedward - how did you do it?

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Sunday, 3 December 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

xpost
Anyway - yeah it is rusty.BUT...my records used to be against the outside wall of an old house which I later realised was slightly damp. Although some of the albums will never be the same again due to warping and/or paper stuck to them - the metal box - while rusty itself - kept the contents in remarkably good shape - huzzah!
I'm very pleased that the little sticker that says METAL 1 has remained intact.

Mark - is that yours at the top? It's in unbelievably good nick.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Sunday, 3 December 2006 21:45 (nineteen years ago)

Notice also the little sellotape marks on the edge.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Sunday, 3 December 2006 22:07 (nineteen years ago)

Where can that new reissue be found for cheap?

... (50 Bourbon St), Sunday, 3 December 2006 22:10 (nineteen years ago)

Never bought one due to lack of albums I need in metal box storage form AND the fact that i fear it rolling off my shelves.

Andi Headphones (Andi Headphones), Monday, 4 December 2006 05:55 (nineteen years ago)

No, that's not my one, mines a little rusty with fingerprints.

I just wanted to post an alternate image rather than the usual http://eil.com/images/gallery_50x50/88197.jpg type.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 4 December 2006 09:20 (nineteen years ago)

record more notable for its packaging than music (apparently).

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Monday, 4 December 2006 10:12 (nineteen years ago)

.. not.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 4 December 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

that's what people are talking about!

you're all just jealous of my durutti column sandpaper sleeve obviously.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Monday, 4 December 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

pah, I wave my first aspect of the same think in yower fiace..

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 4 December 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

pah, I wave my first aspect of the same thing in yower fiace..

M Grout (Mark Grout), Monday, 4 December 2006 10:33 (nineteen years ago)

I figured everyone's talked about the music somewhere before - I'm sure there was some thread about that somewhere - well anyway the music is awesome really from start to finish - it's the only PIL album I can listen to all the way through - one of the few albums full stop I can listen to all the way through actually. No dud tracks and Poptones (for which I am SURE there is thread already) is one of the greatest things of all time ever.

Of course I listen to the CD nowadays as getting those things out of the box and changing the speed for the last side is too much hassle. But the CD comes in a metal box too so that's alright.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

I've always held off buying this because I've heard the CD issue is one of those examples of really horrible CD mastering, or is that just the Second Edition version? Is there a decent reissue of this out?

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

I cannot count how many times this has been blasting in my car as I've scraped ice off my windshields. Scraping jagged ice as the bass goes through the glass into the scraper into the hands and then arms and then almost everything else = ahh.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:48 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - CD sounds fine to me but I am a very poor judge of sound quality.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Monday, 4 December 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

there's a new reissue of the vinyl w/metal box that's really cool and affordable.

who the fuck are 4 Men with Beards? I have several reissues from them. And no, don't say they are a reissue group.. who are the people behind it and do they have beards?

obi strip (sanskrit), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:23 (nineteen years ago)

4 Men with Beards

Nu-Edward III (edward iii), Monday, 4 December 2006 22:29 (nineteen years ago)

Wow - quite a lot of hate for it on that old thread - I'm shocked.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

it's the 'sergeant peppers' of the late 70s so obviously it's going to provoke a backlash.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 11:21 (nineteen years ago)

well, hate was a request.

Anger is an energy, of course.

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

'meh' is not an energy.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

i believe the us cd is the one that is supposed to sound terrible, but the virgin cd in the metal box is supposed to sound better. I have the latter one and it sounds good
