Pretty sure this was the best list there:
Ian Winwood1. The King Blues - Punk & Poetry2. The Decemberists - The King Is Dead3. Arctic Monkeys - Suck It & See4. Frank Turner - England Keep My Bones5. Lou Reed and Metallica - Lulu

Wait, there's a band called New Look? Or is there an album of all the mallectro they play in New Look shops, because I would totally buy that record.
― rekeningopnemer (Fotherington Thomas), Monday, 12 December 2011 12:17 (twelve years ago) link
going thru that pitchfrk list; props to J0rdan for the write up alongside the Kendrick track.

Melissa Bradshaw from that BBC writers' list has a 2010 album in her choices. Buffoon.
― Illia Rump (emil.y), Monday, 12 December 2011 13:21 (twelve years ago) link
She has two if you count Diddy Dirty Money as 2010 as well as Shangaan Electro.
― los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Monday, 12 December 2011 13:26 (twelve years ago) link
Ah yes, I did actually wonder about that as I remembered it showing in the ilx poll. Couldn't remember if that was a single or album, though. Shangaan Electro wasn't even late 2010 as far as I recall!

We can debate the merits of the other records, but Frank Turner is truly beyond the pale.

there is suddenly the very real possibility that my top 3 albums will all be in the guardian's top 4...
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Monday, 12 December 2011 13:41 (twelve years ago) link
New Look is dope imo. A warm, minimalist synth-pop type thing.

Don't know who you voted for Lex, but there's been no Adele, Florence, PJ Harvey or err, M83 or Elbow yet. Can't think what else.

lex I think it's a measure of the infectiousness of your enthusing that you appear to be incredibly good at winning over people around you to your likes. This will be quite a coup if it comes off.
― Tim F, Monday, 12 December 2011 13:53 (twelve years ago) link
i don't really think i can take credit for people liking beyoncé and pj harvey. really it was NID that those three albums would be top 10 (just based on other guardian writers' taste), just didn't expect beyoncé and katy b to go top 4.
actually i'm quite spectacularly bad at winning people over to my personal likes that don't have momentum from elsewhere.
― degas-dirty monet (lex pretend), Monday, 12 December 2011 13:57 (twelve years ago) link
Not getting at anyone but Beyonce, PJ Harvey and Katy B doesn't seem surprising for a Guardian list
― Number None, Monday, 12 December 2011 13:59 (twelve years ago) link
Well yeah, what lex said
xxpost well you have heaps of direct influence on my list but then that's nothing new.
― Tim F, Monday, 12 December 2011 13:59 (twelve years ago) link
Feeling a bit "hmmm" on New Look but that's probably one to debate on the "arty electronica with girl vocals" thread.
― rekeningopnemer (Fotherington Thomas), Monday, 12 December 2011 14:07 (twelve years ago) link
After last year's ILM tracks poll I don't think anyone should doubt Lex's powers.
― sean doily, Monday, 12 December 2011 14:11 (twelve years ago) link
I guess I should mention that P&J ballots sent this weekend.
― Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 12 December 2011 14:14 (twelve years ago) link
I don't think Beyonce is a lock for the Graun's top five actually.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:26 (twelve years ago) link
Like there's an unexploded Adele-bomb in there still and given the rest of the list I wouldn't be surprised to see something like the Girls album pop up in the top five. Obviously Let England Shake is a lock and Katy B is more likely to appear then Beyonce.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:30 (twelve years ago) link
Actually I probably mean the Elbow album rather than the Girls album.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link
ElbowFlorenceAdelePJ HarveyBeyonceKaty B
^ pick two that aren't going to make it
― los krampusinos! (pomplamau5), Monday, 12 December 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link
Goblin will be top 4, surely?
― ShariVari, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:37 (twelve years ago) link
Florence is out, so straight fite for two places between Adele, Elbow & Beyonce.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:39 (twelve years ago) link
You know, I listened to the Florence album and the Austra album back to back and I'm a little nonplussed/bemused that people would ride hard for one and not the other since they are verging on identical aside from the guitar on Florence's album.
― OH NOES, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:48 (twelve years ago) link
Austra don't make intolerably racist videos for a start?
― rekeningopnemer (Fotherington Thomas), Monday, 12 December 2011 15:50 (twelve years ago) link
well okay, there is that
― OH NOES, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:51 (twelve years ago) link
Florence is pissing me off to a huge extreme with that actually, because I really fell hard for her album and then she completely fucked up one of the best songs on the album with that video
― OH NOES, Monday, 12 December 2011 15:52 (twelve years ago) link
TBH, I had taken against FATM long before that but I can't really give you any quantifiable reason why apart from, "I just took against her" - I could not even tell you what the missing ingredient is in Austra that make me take to them, either. I'm useless as a critic.
― rekeningopnemer (Fotherington Thomas), Monday, 12 December 2011 15:54 (twelve years ago) link
Actually I totally get why one would not go for her Lungs material; from what I've heard, there's a lot of inappropriate bellowing happening throughout the album that gets reigned in a lot on Ceremonials, making it more effective when it does barrel into your ears.

Yeah they sort of flit between house and nu-disco, they've released at least one free album this year that I've totally failed to listen to.
― Matt DC, Monday, 12 December 2011 16:39 (twelve years ago) link
i think they're pretty middle of the road as these producers go, none of their tracks hit for me like say the revenge or mark e or the better edit-creators or w/e, and 'gin nation' which is their big acclaimed single is way too close to the original -- a track off one of my favorite albums -- for me to feel like its earned its year end list spots personally.
― joey joe joe junior shabadoo, Monday, 12 December 2011 17:20 (twelve years ago) link
there are a couple tracks of theres i think are v. good songs but 'gin nation' is too close to 'dj tool' for me to love it i guess
