How old are you Paul? I think I'm 2 or three years older, and missed the shouting-encore-une-fois-in-class thing.

got to number three in october '96, but with 'born slippy' was probably the most ubiquitous rereleased dance record of the year.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

autumn/winter '96 yeah, but it only got in the 20s a year beforehand. massive in clubs obviously.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:31 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost i be 23. i also seem to remember kids shouting "Ecuador!" a lot but this was less lesson specific.

acrobat (acrobat), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:34 (seventeen years ago) link

glad doglatin isn't here to try his '96 sucked' crap again lol

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Four years difference. I'd have been 17 when it came out - past French lessons.

Sick Mouthy (sickmouthy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Encore une fois definitely. Though I still prefer Ecuador.

On a related note: whither Dario G?

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:42 (seventeen years ago) link

He's on "The World's Greatest Vaguely-Sporty Celebratory Compilation Part 5"

Dario G = not a he. http://www.discogs.com/artist/Dario+G

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 16:56 (seventeen years ago) link

it appears to be three or two hes.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Dario G is the name of a dance music trio from Cheshire, England. The act was named after the manager of Crewe Alexandra, Dario Gradi. Its founder members are Paul Spencer, Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer (the Spencers are not related). Paul Spencer is the only remaining member of the trio.

acrobat (acrobat), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah, just checked dario g's myspace(!) and it seems to be a he now. I seem to remember there being a group back in the day.

Ah, xpost.

jim (jim), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:04 (seventeen years ago) link

didn't he do that terrible 'Ring Of Fire' thing last year?

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Paul Spencer is the only remaining member of the trio.

the others died in a car crash with dave grohl.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:06 (seventeen years ago) link

we shouted "encore une fois" in french too!

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

we're well overdue a big UK hit with a french title, unless i've forgotten something recent.

resumo impetus (blueski), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

'deja vu'

lexpretend (lexpretend), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

'Grace Kele'

M Grout (Mark Grout), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:13 (seventeen years ago) link

"children" was soporific jism. "encore une fois" ruled mightily. i have the cassette single somewhere.

grimly fiendish (simon), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 17:48 (seventeen years ago) link

I never did French but there was a bizarre trend of singing 'boccadillo de jamon' to the tune of Inner Circle's Sweat. Apparently that song was about s.e.x.

I just realised I liked Encore Une Fois. It was loads better than Protect Your Mind (For The Love of a Princess).

Mippy (Mippy), Tuesday, 13 February 2007 22:46 (seventeen years ago) link

this thread rests on faulty premises. Ecuador! is the best song ever as of today. whatever happened to pop-trance? what was the last big pop-trance hit?

acrobat (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:32 (seventeen years ago) link

i never thought of it as trance at all.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:36 (seventeen years ago) link

maybe it was though. 'children' kind of was.

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:36 (seventeen years ago) link

oh.

bat latin (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Last big trance record: "As The Rush Comes" by Motorcycle?

Dom Passantino (DomPassantino), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 11:52 (seventeen years ago) link

'Encore Une Fois' was Hardbag.

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:09 (seventeen years ago) link

sorry i just like saying Hardbag

TS: 'Professional Widow' vs 'Blue Skies' (one for everyone's favourite double-act)

temporary enrique (temporary enrique), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:12 (seventeen years ago) link

what was the last big pop-trance hit?

it's been replaced by things like Cascada's 'Truly Madly Deeply' i guess. i don't know what to call stuff like that or Ultrabeat's 'Pretty Green Eyes' now - not Scouse House. it's all pretty bad.

resumo impetus (blueski), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:17 (seventeen years ago) link

does it crossover with the post Put Your Hands Up stuff that is being advertized all the time. maybe it's just i'm watching more tv but there seems to loads more dance compilations being heavily pushed at the moment.

acrobat (acrobat), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 12:20 (seventeen years ago) link

"Ecuador" is better than either.
