I'm trying to decide if I have a hangover or if I'm just missing sleep. I woke up at ungodly o'clock to have a coughing fit and never got back to sleep.

Oh, that's a pity, Sub Zero pretty much described the temperature in my office at the moment

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I just wanted to avoid the Sub Sub references at all costs!

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:27 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a law against these temperatures! Where's the EU when you need 'em??!?!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Call Boris! get him to complain to Elf and Safety!

Though aren't you Scottish? You're supposed to be able to laugh at sub zero temperatures and arctic winds! It's Socialist to have everyone the same temperature as outside!

Hi watercooler. I'm feeling shit today. Really shit. Not physical, just really bad ennui. So I'm going home at lunchtime. What can I do to perk myself up? I hate feeling like this. Ug.

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, yes, Dada! Ed says he may have bailalaika connections. Will you join in the drone if we obtain one? ;-)

Hi, JB. Sorry you're feeling rub. It's that time of year, there's a lot of it going around. Go home and do something that you really enjoy, that you can really lose yourself in.

I was probably playing mine all wrong. But I suppose you can't really go too far wrong with three strings...

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:37 (seventeen years ago) link

I got used to weather a LOT colder in Upstate NY. But on moving back to London, I was shocked by how much colder it could feel. Probably it's the humidity. Or the fact that you think it's not really cold so you don't bundle up the way you would in a Lake Effect snowstorm.

Can I post some more cute pictures, or should I get me to a Shush of Crame thread?

http://www.comedycv.co.uk/boosh/2003-january-the-boosh.jpg

Mmmmmm, cake. We should have had cake last night. But then again, I was stuffed after the pielettes.

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Go home and do something that you really enjoy, that you can really lose yourself in.

... and after you've had a wank, things will look better! Or you'll be sleepy.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:39 (seventeen years ago) link

I can't imagine wanking helping. I always feel worse afterwards, as I'm sure everyone does. I only wank when I'm bored anyway.

Cake's a good idea though. Banana cake always makes me happy, I'll make that. I think I've got some bananas that are just about to turn, so perfect for cake.

Somebody's birthday at work, sio I've just been given some saisbury's snarties chosolate cake. ALl bought cakes arew a travesty, but this one is really wrong, like a badly-phrased metaphor.

Nice Legs Shame About the Sexism

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Wanking *can* be kind of a topical anti-depressant. It used to work for me. However, now I'm actually on *real* anti-depressants, it is almost impossible, physically, to wank. Sorry, TMI, I know. There is nothing more depressing than the vague occasional desire to actually, like, wank, and then realising that you can't. But then I pop another pill and feel all shiny and happy again. :-D

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:51 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, actually, the one useful thing I learned from my last shrink is that bananas are actually quite good for depression - they contain the building blocks of amino acids that the brain turns into serotonin. So banana cake may really help!

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I always feel worse afterwards, as I'm sure everyone does

Really? Unless you mean in the sense of "a moment ago I was horny and orgasmic, now I'm neither". Though if you're miserable already I can see how it might contribute to a further feeling of deflation.

I love hawaiian shirt paisley, especially in those weird 70s fabrics. I used to have the greatest collection of paisley dresses and shirts, but I've mellowed with age into wearing Liberty style paisley because I think it's more dignified in a person my age.

Oh, that reminds me (eye bending paisley) that I finally brought in the picture of my mural, so I should post it. It's almost the same colours as Julian's shirt there.

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I saw Hot Fuzz last night! It was great! Though I predict an avalanche of people saying "it wasn't as good as Shaun of the Dead" - I'm not sure I disagree with that, but I definitely enjoyed Hot Fuzz more.

I am no expert on feminine hotttness or not, but I just think that she looks COLD. Like, I want her to put on long johns or something. (This is not a fashion suggestion, or a suggestion of importunity involving JB.)

That didn't occur to me ("you'll catch your death in that, love" or w/e) b/c that's standard winter clothing for women up here in the NE. In summer, women dress up warm, in winter skimpy little short dresses like that. Men are the same - jeans & t-shirt in winter, thick jumper in summer. It's a bit fucking daft, isn't it.

Boiled sweets no good. It is a chesty, inhalery kind of a cough. Like spasms. I guess I'll just see how I feel when I get there and if I'm coughing too much I'll just leave.

No, I don't like high maintainance boys who have to be too looked after. That's no good. I think I just need to get laid, not actually have to run around paying attention to someone, bah.

Ah, is it the coughing fit, can't stop kind of a cough? I've had those all week and the only thing to do about them is leave the room and gasp for air and maybe drink some cold water. Yuck.

Yes, it would. I don't know yet, but mostly likely Friday till Sunday, with for definite being at Full Mooners on Saturday night, except that I don't know where it's on.

I did go to the theatre last night and didn't cough too much. I did almost punch the people next to me, though, who didn't really get Mamet dialogue and whispered theories to each other about what was going on all through the second act. Stupid people. Of course I suppose (she said snobbily) that that's the risk you run when you go to see plays that have TV people in them.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 22 February 2007 09:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Zermatt Advice:

To get there get the train from the airport (both geneva and zurich have stations in the airport). You can get what is known as a Swiss Transfer ticket from http://www.sbb.ch/ which is cheaper than an ordinary ticket which covers you from the airport/border to your final destination. If you fly with Swiss they can check your luggage through to the railway station at the end of the journey.

You can buy passes in advance on-line, but it costs a little extra for the reusable rfid card, see http://www.zermatt.ch/

For good apres ski, get to the Hennu Stall on the last run between Furi and the main town.

In the evening Paperlapub and the sneewitchen seem to be pretty reliable.

Ack! Not that kind of advice (although it's appreciated, of course).

Any thoughts on which end/part of town to stay in? Last time I was there was five or six years ago, and I'm finding it difficult to differentiate Zermatt memories from Val d'Isere ones (I remember the caipirinhas quite clearly, but after that all is a blur :).

My colleague has intimated that he may not be around much longer, and that I might want to lock in some vacation sooner, because it may be difficult to get time off later.

It's -20 out today and somehow skiing is just not exciting me much, but I can't find anything else particularly interesting or reasonably priced for mid-March. :(

There are lots of nice chalets around Hauptstrasse which is well placed for the Bubble to Kleine Matterhorn and Riffleberg and good for the town as well.

I am cross with my detractors on the board. Should I shrug it off and say "so what? they're only having a laugh, innit?" I am confused as to the correct course of action.

This is a sign, clearly.
