young carlton cole is off to a good start with 4 already chelsea, villa, charlton and west ham already. pennants already on 4 at a young (leeds, arsenal, liverpool, birmingham). heskey capable of adding to his 4 also, jeffers less so

surprisingly, marcus bent has only 4, he would have been my best bet

andy cole on 6 with man united, newcastle, portsmouth, fulham, blackburn, man city

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

keith gillespie has 5, there must be some with more than 6

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:14 (nineteen years ago)

Barmby? Sheringham (Forest, Spurs, United, Portsmouth, West Ham) 5. Mark Robins?

Teh HoBBx (HoBB), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:20 (nineteen years ago)

does nigel quashie have 6? qpr, forest, portsmouth, west ham, wba and southampton?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

Les Ferdinand: QPR, Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham, Leicester City, Bolton.

Plus he's registered as a player/coach with Watford at the moment, although I believe that's just in case of emergency.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Darren Huckerby on five clubs, if you count one appearance for Newcastle. I'm sure there are some Premiership journeymen who might beat Andy Cole but I can't think of any right now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:30 (nineteen years ago)

David Unsworth has Everton, West Ham, Sheffield United, Wigan, Portsmouth, Ipswich (weren't in the prem at the time, though) and Villa (even though he left on the day he signed, the daft fuck).

Michael Annoyman (Michael Annoyman), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:31 (nineteen years ago)

Are Unsworth and Joey Beauchamp the only players to have done that, while we're on football trivia?

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

ah but they have to have played! i dont see him adding to his 6 with watford.

did he play in the premiership for bolton, or just cup games, i cant remember?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

Stan Collymore played for 6 (Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester, Bradford) and shares the record with Teddy Sheringham and Andrew "don't call me Andy" Cole.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

Ryan Giggs.

Sorry, wrong thread.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:39 (nineteen years ago)

Benito Carbone played for 5 premiership clubs (Boro, Derby, Bradford, Villa, Sheff Wed) and about 96 Serie A clubs.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

That Leicester squad that went down in 2004 seems to have pretty much the full set of Premiership journeymen. Paul Dickov, Les Ferdinand, Keith Gillespie, Andy Impey, Marcus Bent, Steve Howey, Ben Thatcher (a future contender surely?), Brian Deane and Ian Walker. Can anyone beat that lot?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

I forgot Frank Sinclair.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Tony Cottee might be a contender.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:44 (nineteen years ago)

Goalkeepers. They often play for a lot of clubs. And play for a long time.

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

There really should be a footballer IMDb. Or is there?

ned trifle XIV (ned trifle XIV), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

David James is the best I can think of: Liverpool, Villa, West Ham, Man City, Portsmouth

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.soccerbase.com/ is what I usually use for club/appearance stats. It's far from comprehensive but still very good.

xpost

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 11:59 (nineteen years ago)

There's only, what, three players who've played in every season in the Premiership?

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no, it must be more than that, Scholes and Gary Neville must have surely?

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:02 (nineteen years ago)

Scholes and Gary Neville weren't in the Man U team when the Prem started.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:03 (nineteen years ago)

I think Scholes and Neville are a bit too young. Gary Speed might have played every single season though.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

Ok, it is three then!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

And Gary Speed is one of them!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:04 (nineteen years ago)

95/96 before they played.

xpost to myself

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:05 (nineteen years ago)

Although amazingly, Teddy Sheringham hasn't.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

I know who the other two are but I'm not telling

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Who are the three - Gary Speed, David James and... Sol Campbell?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ah right, that's not the two I was thinking of! Didn't David James spend a season outside the Premiership?

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Robbie Fowler as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

ryan giggs!

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:10 (nineteen years ago)

That was so obvious I forgot.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

Sol Campbell would make it four... if he played in his first season at Spurs. Robbie Fowler no. Ryan Giggs yes!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:11 (nineteen years ago)

Sol came on once as a striker and scored, then didn't play again that season. Why not Fowler, has he played this season?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

Did Fowler spend a season in Div 1? With Leeds or Man City? Or maybe he didn't play in his first season (he was only 17)

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ah its either Ray Parlour or Ugo Ehiogu then. Did either of them play this season before leaving Boro?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:15 (nineteen years ago)

Fowler's first season was 93/94, his debut match was a 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:17 (nineteen years ago)

Nope it's neither Parlour nor Ehiogu. It's a guy who is still playing regularly in the Premiership

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Ehiogu only played once for Boro this season and it was a cup game.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

... and someone who is not an international cap too (I think)

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

david unsworth?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Ian Pearce, right?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

craig short?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Mr DC has it!!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:27 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't he in the 1st div for fucking years with West Ham?

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:29 (nineteen years ago)

Oh wait he went to Fulham went they went down didn't he?

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

no, west ham were in the prem for 10 years straight!

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

unsworth was close though, only last season out the prem i think

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:31 (nineteen years ago)

Man in pub told me it was Pearce, so must be right

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:32 (nineteen years ago)

West Ham went down in 02-03 and spent two seasons in the Championship. Pearce went to Fulham halfway through 03-04 season so he looks like a winner.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:33 (nineteen years ago)

Pearce played for Chelsea first - he first played as a striker. God knows what season that was - 93/94?

Anyone know when Sol Campbell made his Spurs debut? I could have sworn he played against us in around 1989 as a 17/18 yr old. He may have even scored against us.

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

wait a minute, when did david james get disproved?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

Sol Campbell's top flight debut was in a 2-1 loss to Chelsea on December 5th, 1992.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

Pearce played one game for Chelsea in the 1st Prem season (92/93).

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

so, campbell and james makes 5 in total then?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

Well I was close!

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

James hasn't been disproved. I think he left West Ham went they went down so he's probably a winner too.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

Who are the five? I am losing track.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

giggs, speed, pearce, james, campbell

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

Actually David James did spent some time with West Ham in Division 1 - don't you remember there was all that fuss about whether or not he'd be sharp enough to play for England etc? Can't remember if he spent the whole season in the Championship though - I think he went to Man City in the transfer window?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:42 (nineteen years ago)

He did.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:43 (nineteen years ago)

yea he played for man city in that season

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:44 (nineteen years ago)

I think it's 5 then

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:48 (nineteen years ago)

this hasnt helped in finding someone who has played a premiership match for more than 6 clubs though!

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Oops, sorry!

Tom D. (Dada), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:50 (nineteen years ago)

I think 6 is the record. Sheringham nearly moved in Janury, according to lots of rumours. I think he should have, just to make the seven before retiring.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:52 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but he was going to move back to Spurs which wouldn't have helped anyone.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:53 (nineteen years ago)

He was touted for Fulhma as well.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

Andy Cole looks like the best chance of anyone hitting the seven though, I'm sure 'arry can wheel/deal/spiel him to some poor sap of a team who get promoted this season.

White Collar Boxer (DomPassantino), Thursday, 15 February 2007 12:55 (nineteen years ago)

at only just turned 24, Pennant will surely claim at least 7 in time

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

even with another stretch inside.

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 15 February 2007 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

I reckon Ben Thatcher stands a chance if Charlton go down. Someone like Lee Bowyer may well sneak up on the inside lane as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

Bowyer's on 5 already isn't he?

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

charlton, leeds, newcastle, west ham and...?

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

except charlton were in division one at the time, so its just 3

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

I've had a hot tip: Neil Shipperley. I will investigate...

Teh HoBBx (HoBB), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

i make shipperly on 5 only

chelsea, southampton, forest, barnsley, palace

never played for sheffield united in premiership, and wimbledon were down when he played for them i think

Subtractive Synthesis (Subtractive Synthesis), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

Shipperley was the name I was rooting around for and couldn't quite remember. Then again he's played for a lot of yo-yo teams and has gone up and down a division a few times.

Chelsea - Southampton - Palace - Forest - Barnsley - Wimbledon - Sheffield United. Pretty sure Wimbledon were out of the top flight at the time, possibly a few of the others as well.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:52 (nineteen years ago)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Shipperley

Barnsley were only in the Prem 97/98, weren't they? So maybe it's only 4.

Teh HoBBx (HoBB), Thursday, 15 February 2007 16:54 (nineteen years ago)

Probably the most obscure to have played for 5 teams - Ashley Ward Norwich, Derby, Barnsley, Blackburn, Bradford

Trivia fact: Carlton Palmer has scored for all of his five Premiership clubs, and been sent off for them all. He was once sent off at Elland Road three seasons in a row, for Leeds, Southampton and Forest.

S1.Carter (S1.C@rter), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

surprisingly, marcus bent has only 4, he would have been my best bet

Bent has 6: Leicester, Ipswich, Charlton, Everton, Blackburn, Palace
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Bent

Teh HoBBx (HoBB), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

Did Bent play for Blackburn upon their return to the Premiership in 2001? He was transferred to Ipswich pretty early in that season.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

No, you're quite right - he played 10 times for Blackburn at the beginning of 2001-02.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 15 February 2007 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Barmby has 5: Spurs, Boro, Everton, Liverpool, Leeds.

Teh HoBBx (HoBB), Thursday, 15 February 2007 20:39 (nineteen years ago)

see, this is what ilx is for :)

did we ever find out if anyone had won world cup, euro champ, champions league (rather than european cup) and fa cup medals? was it blanc?

CarsmileSteve (Carsmile Steve), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:07 (nineteen years ago)

Marcel Desailly, wasn't it?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:18 (nineteen years ago)

(yeah, Googling shows that Laurent Blanc never won the FA Cup or the Champions League, and Marcel Desailly won all four. Has anyone else done it? It's have to be another Frenchman, wouldn't it?)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

Yep, Didier Deschamps.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

Barthez?

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:44 (nineteen years ago)

not sure if he won FA cup?

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

Wasn't it Schmeichel for Man U Champs League?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:47 (nineteen years ago)

Oops, Barthez won with Marseille though. Ignore me.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:48 (nineteen years ago)

He didn't win an FA Cup though.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

He didn't win the FA Cup - he played in cup defeats to West Ham, Boro and Arsenal when he was at ManU.

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:51 (nineteen years ago)

:/

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

Have you killfiled me? :-/

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

ailsa would probably know this stuff

onimo (nu_onimo), Thursday, 15 February 2007 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

:-)
