Finished off a Lindeman's South Africa Chardonnay tonight - doesn't get much better for $8.

I just drank a schmancy organic canned "natural ginger ale" earlier. It was aight.

Boy, I hate that "linking back to photo page" thing. Try again:

A few PBRs for me. Damn.

Zachary Scott (Zachary S), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago) link

yes, near philly. (like 10 minute drive to center city). lion's head is the new yuengling round here.

the table is the table (trees), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:30 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, so I've heard. It's like (pre-hipster-inflation) PBR cheap too.

Shadowcat (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:32 (seventeen years ago) link

There was a point tonight where I was drinking Chardonnay out of an actual wine glass next to my wife on the couch, reading the New Yorker, with the Marian McPartland trio pleasantly bubbling in the background, and it was like "Guess it's time to kill myself."

Shadowcat (A-Ron Hubbard), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait, PBR is more expensive then before? It's been about the same price since I started drinking it.

Zachary Scott (Zachary S), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Depends where. Some places it's still super cheap but others I've seen it priced higher than the rest of its class due to the apparent desire to be seen with one. That may not even be going on anymore though - don't know. I almost never drink PBR unless it's $1 PBR night across the street.

RIYL Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:41 (seventeen years ago) link

lions head at a distributor is still between 11.50 and 13.50 for 24 of bottles. which is totally fucking absurd.

the table is the table (trees), Wednesday, 14 February 2007 04:50 (seventeen years ago) link

My Philly friends never shut up about the beer messiah that is Lion's Head. But it's honestly quite good for the price.

I made a FRENCH 75 for the first time last night:
juice of one lemon
2 tsp powdered sugar
2 oz. bombay sapphire gin
ice
cheap champagne

RESULTS:
You gotta like gin for this one. My sugar had not completely dissolved, i'd found after finishing it. It was tart, but I like tart, but I'd use a smaller lemon or slightly more sugar. Gonna be a good summer drink.

Been genuinely surprised by the number of friends and acquaintances who've opted for a dry Christmas actually.

Meanwhile, have been enjoying champagne, a rather nice New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from the local offie, Baileys and Stones Ginger Wine.

A couple of nights ago had a few pints of Youngs seasonal ale, Angels, appropriately enough in a pub called the Angel and Greyhound.
