Maybe it's enhanced with some careful makeup, I dunno. But there's loads of examples of sudden bulkup/massive weightloss in actors; look at whatsisname who did The Machinist.

yeah, it's the looseness of skin over the wirey muscles that makes that look, i think. and drugs and a diet of bread and candy. i bet rapid weightloss + good make-up artists would do the trick too though. also, jc is getting old!
