Is everyone going back over there now? I guess we need a new watercooler thread.

Dr.C (Dr.C), Thursday, 4 January 2007 09:25 (nineteen years ago)

I'm staying here. Right here, on this thread.

aimurchie (aimurchie), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

anyone else besides me having trouble accessing nu-nonsandbox-ILX? :(

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 4 January 2007 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

Are you still having trouble?

Internet names like ilx.wh3rd.net are mapped by computers to numbers, like 192.168.0.1. This mapping takes place in servers that exist all over the world. When a change to a mapping is made, it can take quite some time to propagate, since it doesn't change on all servers at once, so some people will see it before others.

KeefW (KeefW), Thursday, 4 January 2007 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Just checked, yep still having problems. It's ok though, I'm going to bed anyway, will check again tomorrow. Won't start panicking oh, for another 2 days maybe.

Roz (Roz), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the peoples republic of ILX?

pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:04 (nineteen years ago)

Or the ILX peoples republic?

pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

x-post...

Well you could try this:

http://206.174.196.167/

If that works, then my theory is right and you'll get in via the above number, but not the ilx.wh3rd.net until the name update has propagated.

KeefW (KeefW), Thursday, 4 January 2007 23:23 (nineteen years ago)

that's not working either. :(

Roz (Roz), Friday, 5 January 2007 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

What happens when you try?

It just times out. I tried from Firefox and IE. All sites are loading fine except for nu-ILX. :(

I was able to get in for about a couple of hours around midnight Melbourne time but it started timing out again after that.

Roz (Roz), Friday, 5 January 2007 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

ok wtf guys. It's timing out every time, has been for hours. But not for everyone, apparently?

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Saturday, 6 January 2007 06:25 (nineteen years ago)

And it's not the name. That IP doesn't work for me, either. But I'm talking to Laurel, and she's had no problems.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Saturday, 6 January 2007 06:28 (nineteen years ago)

It's certainly puzzling this, why most can get in but some can't. Can you try some command line stuff please?

Get a DOS prompt or a shell or whatever up...

Type

telnet ilx.wh3rd.net 80

If this works, then you've made a connection to ILX. If it fails, it'll just hang around with some sort of "Trying..." message.

If it works, paste in the following stuff between the dashes, including the blank line at the end.

----------
GET /index.php
host: ilx.wh3rd.net

----------

Do you get a big HTML response?

KeefW (KeefW), Saturday, 6 January 2007 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

keith, it doesn't work either, there's no "Trying" message, it just says:

Could not open connection to the host on port 80: Connect failed

Roz (Roz), Saturday, 6 January 2007 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

Curiouser and curiouser. I can connect just fine with my Powerbook, but still not with my PC. This is on the same internet connection and through the same router.

The PC is using Vista, if that helps any.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Saturday, 6 January 2007 15:55 (nineteen years ago)

is IPv6 on?

stet (stet), Saturday, 6 January 2007 18:14 (nineteen years ago)

Can you guys get to Paper Thin Walls?

stet (stet), Saturday, 6 January 2007 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

nope.

Stuck in ILX Limbo (Roz), Sunday, 7 January 2007 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks rozanna. I think the problem is with our hosts (who also host PTW) and not with the server. I'll see what can be done.

ok, so I still can't get to old ILX - I guess I will remain here with the splinter group - the rebel sandbox set.
