Hooray! Actually I'm going to see if this is on order for UCI...

well, i dont think regular people care at all about PW, but it's like libraries and booksellers who make their buying decisions based on PW/Kirkus. that's what my mom said, who was a librarian.

anyhow, thanks laurel, and i hope you like the book!

Congrats, Phil! I'll go get a copy tonight!

Somebody already cataloged it, though, and gave it the subject heading:

Models (Persons) ǂv Fiction.

I could have done better.

(Kidding abt PW, actually I make my reading list mostly from their reviews b/c I am lazy. But review status does not apply to yr pet project!)

whoevever can find fault in book with blow-jobbing models and cokewhore ukrainians should not be in such a position of power, i think.

What would you have cataloged it as Molly? Is there a trend now for more and more cataloging subject entries? I see books with like 5-7 entries, whereas before I thought it was like 1-3?

Top of my reading list...TO YOU!

Depends on where you work, but very rarely does fiction get subject headings, unless the topic is intensely specific and may be of interest to someone (like this book). Public libraries also give SHs to fiction a lot more than academic libraries.

You ready for some extreme geekery?

Models (Persons) $z New York (State) $z New York $v Fiction.
Models (Persons) $x Drug use $v Fiction.

As for the 1-3 rule for SHs, it all depends. A lot of literary criticism books on broad subjects get tons of subject headings, while a book solely critiquing the works of Roald Dahl may only get one (a 600 name/title entry).

Haa Molly you geek!

Phil why is your name so small on the book when YOU are the real star?? I'd complain until you get a billboard! It's still a 1-3 week order on Amazon UK so I will go and picket the hott London bookstores until we get it :) :)

WELL DONE YOU!

Yea, I work in a public library, and I've noticed that a lot of the YA fiction has an abundance of really specific subject headings lately. I was wondering if this was an attempt to Google-ize cataloging...

I like your headings! Is there any peer review of subject cataloging, or is it just up to the first person who gets to the job? And is that usually the LOC?

Here's on example:

http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/59098938?tab=subjects

And I remembered this one as having a lot of subjects, but apparently it only has two, rather specific ones

Customers who bought items like this also bought
Blind Submission: A Novel by Debra Ginsberg
The Road by Cormac Mccarthy
Barefoot Contessa at Home: Everyday Recipes You'll Make Over and Over Again by Ina Garten

Congrats, etc. It sounds RUDE.
