2007?

When did we stop living in real time and start living in a year that looks like a bad sci-fi comic from the 60s?

"2007" just seems so wrong.

Discuss.

A couple of us were talking about this today, oddly enough.

"IN THE FUTURE!"

I was just saying, "how did we get over halfway through this decade?" I can't quite get my head around it.

I'm sorry, but Grady's link is ALL about the K-drama synopses:

'INFAMOUS CHILL SISTERS'

EPISODES 49 AND 50

Tonight at 7: Michill's and Ilhan's happiness is short-lived when they argue over baby plans. Hanam receives Seolchill's message, and Seolchill heads back to Seoul. Shinja is irate when she sees Deokchill and Seontaek canoodling after work.

Tonight at 8: Jongchill breaks down when Taeja tells her about his draft notice. However, the two band together to tell Chansoon the bad news. But Chansoon doesn't take the news well. Chansoon criticizes Seolchill for coming home late.

Funny, I found myself thinking last night that 2007 will be the first year this decade that I haven't had WTF ITS THE FUTURE thoughts.

it's not going to be hard for me to get used to because it's part of my school e-mail address and for some reason we are always identified by class year. in fact, i started writing '07 in dates accidentally a month or two ago.

Maria e (Maria), Monday, 1 January 2007 23:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I haven't totally given up writing "19--" on occasion. Help me, I just can't integrate reality!

2002 was the last notable year number. Since then it's just been a big speedy blur, which has coincided with my 30s.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 01:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Speedy Blur!

Playing "Song 2" on 78rpm!

Sigh. So 2007 will be the same as 2006 (and 2005, 2004....)

Haha, AFI covered "Song 2" on the MTV New Year's special last night.

2006 I had been anticipating for a long time b/c it was my high school graduating year, but 2007 kind of snuck up on me (as did turning 19 - really, wtf happens when you're 19?)

step hen faps (Curt1s Stephens), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 03:42 (seventeen years ago) link

I think it's a beautiful looking number (and I'm not saying that as a way to say I am expecting it to be a good year).

RSLaRue (RSLaRue), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 03:48 (seventeen years ago) link

It's a multiple of nine, and I always like multiples of nine.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 03:49 (seventeen years ago) link

my experience tells me that amazing things happen.

grady (grady), Tuesday, 2 January 2007 05:17 (seventeen years ago) link

all "wtf 2007" brings to mind for me is that we only have two more years of these left:

Because only Momus will be able to sport the 2010 versions.

and even then he'd have to wear them upside down.

Snap, Curtis. I'll be 20 in November 07 :( Maybe one reason I'm scared of 07 is because 2006 was the final academic year I spent with my old school friends. Now we don't have the year in common any more, we may soon drift apart. Soon I'll be back at uni though and I'll be OK.

Does anyone remember when you used to see expiry years on batteries such as "2007" and think, woah, that year is a whole world away....

However I remember thinking in 2002, that 2005 would be a stereotypical "future" setting and my whole kitchen would be in chrome, but that never happened fortunately. :)

I know! Somehow that makes it worse, not better, though. (Seriously, I remember the flip to 1990 way too clearly for it to be 2007.)

To celebrate 2007 I bought a Superchunk album.

I'm excited about this decade's Appetite For Destruction/Marquee Moon/Sgt. Pepper's being released this year.

Also, my birthyear is now officially closer to Pearl Harbor than it is to the present year.

was this the Appetite For Destruction/Marquee Moon/Sgt. Pepper's of 1997?
