For celebration tonight we are going out to see our friends the Riverboat Gamblers play. I'm sure some booze-drinking will be involved.

In terms of New Year mental readiness I've been cleaning/reorganizing the past couple of days. We've rid the garage of crap, I've straightened my sewing room and am about to tackle the dresser drawers. Bags for the Salvation Army wait by the front door. Fuck a resolution.

tomorrow starts with mimosas for breakfast and then good luck blackeyed peas, cornbread and greens for dinner. yum.

jonny (jonnyceskus), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:08 (nineteen years ago)

In the company of a number of friends, early evening celebrations at the Avanti Cafe (margarita carafes at $7 each = that works), later evening celebrations at the Harp Inn and probably other pub crawl locales near it, collapse and likely hangover madness, then breakfast at El Ranchito's Costa Mesa location. Happily I don't have to work until the 3rd.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:10 (nineteen years ago)

I have to go back the 2nd. :(

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

another couple coming over. menu of martinis, champers (actually prosecco italian bubbly) wine plus arugula salad w/portobello, salmon on lentils and leftover birthday cake. our son will DJ.

m coleman (lovebug ), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:14 (nineteen years ago)

I'm supposed to be meeting friends in the pub in an hour but it is very very windy outside. Like bent-over-double-walking kind of windy.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

I'm only just now getting the fear. As I think back, all my shitty new years have preceded shitty years. The ones that have rocked have been followed by rocking years. I'm working till 11 anyway, but might go on mission after.

stet (stet), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

fave local bar asked me to throw a party, so i obliged!

hanging out at friends, playing board games, drinking. might try to get some of them to head to local dive bar for Guitar Hero II championships.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

there's lots of good stuff going on tonight bar/club wise but this is one of those nights I'm really loathe to drive. the place we're going is not in any of the central bar areas so I'm hoping it will be okay.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Sunday, 31 December 2006 20:27 (nineteen years ago)

Cleaned out the fridge and prepped the good luck food for tomorrow. Bottle of blanc du noir in fridge. Lunch discussion of whether we are up to staying awake until midnight (possibly not - we are pathetic like that).

jaq (jaq), Sunday, 31 December 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Home with some friends & family*, lots of booze, crap party cds and hopefully Singstar.

*assuming they brave the godawful weather to get here

I'll be trying to finish repairing a broken commode. Then getting drunk. Tomorrow, probably a movie in the afternoon and then a greens and peas dinner.

Hanging out with friends who also have kids, drinking champagne, and probably coming home early. Tomorrow: having other friends over.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Sunday, 31 December 2006 22:56 (nineteen years ago)

Jumping in my prof's cold-ass swimming pool after drinking! That is the family plan. We have spent Thxgiving and Xmas eve w/the guy and it should be as mellow and fun as those other days. My previous New Yrs have been shit so this is a welcome change.

Abbott (Abbott), Sunday, 31 December 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

I hate New Year - always have, always will.

I am 40 minutes away from 2007 and I want to stop all the clocks (nod to W H Auden) because you cnuts are gonna do "auld acquantance", and all that shit. This means nothing, (New year used to be in March; this is so arbitary as to be meaningless)

God, I hate this time of year; give me Xmas any fucking day.

Boksen - The jury is out (Guilty Boksen), Sunday, 31 December 2006 23:16 (nineteen years ago)

My old sign off was "A shitty end to a shitty year."

Abbott (Abbott), Sunday, 31 December 2006 23:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be amazed if I'm still awake at midnight.

The PEW Research Center for Panty-Twisting (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 31 December 2006 23:35 (nineteen years ago)

Oh no, i'll be awake at midnight (10 minutes and counting)but I hate it, I HATE IT SOO MUCHHH. Fuck you all!

Good New Year to all who care about this shit (heart felt to aldo and Onimo; almost as heart felt to teh kit - and even Kate, god dammit, and Marcello because he may be (fuck it, he is) the best writer on ILX sandbox, or not}

Oh well that's over for another year.

Drinking until I can't see at a variety of parties, utilizing cabs for transportation in MPLS/STPL, the least cab-friendly place on earth. Odds on waking up in a strangers house close to 100%.

Happy New Year, Londoners!

I'm chilling out with my mom because it looks like we will get snowed in here but later there will be champagne at my best friend's house, provided her mum hasn't turned into a total crankypants becaue of having a full house and insisting on waiting on them hand and foot and refusing all offers of assistance.

Earlier, we made a snowman with the help of N's daughter B3lla, my three and a half-year-old assistant who calls it "tnow".

Chad Bouche (Wrinklepaws), Monday, 1 January 2007 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry ; should have said "Happy New Year" to Ailsa - I may never have met you, but I feel that is only a matter of time!

I hope Singstar happened for Onimo, if that is really what he wanted. Santa bought me the Buzz Sports quiz, which is fucking ace.

Big hello to Megan on her first Xmas...

Boksen - The jury is out (Guilty Boksen), Monday, 1 January 2007 00:47 (nineteen years ago)

happy new year, ILX. mrs fiendish and i stayed in, ate a stunning meal (cooked, i must admit, entirely by her), watched DVDs - with a break for "still game" - and drank far less wine than we expected.

stet texted me to tell me there was "no queue" and "lots of tickets" at the art school bash, and that i'd "love it". by the time i got the text i was well past even considering it. hope you had a good one, mate.

now, however, while mrs F slumbers, i'm full of food and coffee and can't sleep. fuck. someone in the tenement sounds like they're having a party. however, it also sounds like a pretty bollocks party, so i'm going to stay here until i simply pass outzzzzzzz ...

grimly fiendish (simon), Monday, 1 January 2007 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

Somehow it managed to become 2007 here. Happy New Year, you lovable fucks.

The PEW Research Center for Panty-Twisting (Rock Hardy), Monday, 1 January 2007 06:32 (nineteen years ago)

fighting my way back home from work through midtown crowds arrrgh, then drinking prosecco (w/strawberries!) w/wife and watching kidling dance around the living room to vh-1's top 40 of '06 countdown while flipping back and forth to anderson cooper and ny 1. very exciting.

Happy New Year!

I worked till 11 p.m. and that was less than thrilling. i watched the fireworks in the harbour from outside the hospital with some of the people working in the emergency room and that was fun. the fireworks were so close! cleaned up blood. came home and watched dick clark and had bubbly and took a shower and then had hott milf sexx. time for bed.

scott seward (121212), Monday, 1 January 2007 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

I just came back from a family celebration. There's always a family celebration for New Year's Eve/Day so the few years I haven't had one it's felt really weird. So I welcomed the New Year in properly, surrounded by relatives, sipping a requisite little bit of champagne (my alcohol content for the year) and watching the local TV coverage of our local New Year's spectacle. This year the skies were actually clear (they haven't been for the past few years) so we all got a good glimpse of the fireworks. Now I think I'll be going to sleep. I don't go back to work until the 3rd, but I just want to get some extra sleep. Plus I think I'm catching a cold so all the better to fight that.

Phoenix (is still) Dancing (krushsister), Monday, 1 January 2007 07:11 (nineteen years ago)

wait, where can you look at a harboUr AND watch dick clark?

sunny successor (katarina), Monday, 1 January 2007 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

went to in-laws: ate rigatoni, played imaginiff, watched some of packers beat baers lol, wrestled with children, saw mexico city countdown on univision, drank champagne, came home, put kids in bed, got on internet. (my h.m.i.l.f.s. was last nite)

Matt Cbliua (Formerly, the Haikunym), Monday, 1 January 2007 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

Had some family and friends over to bring in the bells at our house, got the obligatory lump of coal but don't know where to put it.

Struggled with the worlds worst hangover at work all day yesterday, had to cancel my traditional New Years Eve meal and sip ginger wine to calm my stomach enough for visitors.

Managed to last until 3am, in work at 6.45. My eyes feel like broken glass and I'm cold, so cold. Must sleep soon.

Rumps (Rumps), Monday, 1 January 2007 07:30 (nineteen years ago)

Happy New Year! I slept through midnight but was woken at 3 minutes past by a screaming baby - who put that there? So we celebrated the new year together with a nice bottle of expressed breastmilk and a shitty nappy.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 1 January 2007 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

went to a PACKED semi-private party(=no cover=yay) at a hollywood sushi place dancing as best we could to the lamest dj ever. So glad I didn't actually get drunk. Beats sitting at home, I guess.

I went to the pub. It was a bit rubbish, though I did get a free pint off the owner of my local. I came home and listened to Johnny Cash. Happy New Year to one and all.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Monday, 1 January 2007 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

HA ha oh dear, well I played some records at Poptimism and it was great! I then however drank too much wine and was sick and had to get taken home so I didn't do another set - oh well! It's not a new year if you're not berating yrself for being lame and rubbish!!

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Monday, 1 January 2007 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

NB - wasn't actually *sick* but shure felt it. The journey home has conveniently removed itself from my mind which is nice as it was no doubt hellish.

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Monday, 1 January 2007 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

The Art School bash was pretty good and the bond was fab! The toilets, just post-bells, were full of girls who were either crying or puking. Oh look, jonny was there too! Hopefully not crying/puking.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 1 January 2007 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

happy new year everyone!

show was great but a bit strange, lots of friends there. Had nice kiss with boy and discussion about how lovely our succession of new year's kisses have become. Then annoucnment from stage that the club had the time wrong so we're about to countdown for real. more kisses!

this morning a little less pleasant b/c of hangover from cheap beer.

However breakfast of breakfast tacos and mimosas is wrapping up, rose parade is on and we're going to take the dogs to the park b/c it's sunny and nice out. yay!

tomorrow work, little boo.

(archel sounds like she had the best night.)

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 1 January 2007 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

Spent the weekend at a friends place in Gloucestershire, they weren't there but other friends were. We walked along the banks of the Severn to the pub. Cooked a big joint of beef, argued about how to make gravy, played scrabble and got drunk in front of the fire, highly enjoyable.

Ed (dali), Monday, 1 January 2007 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Good morning indeed. Everything happened exactly as I expected except for hitting up Taco Mesa for breakfast this morning instead. Great night.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 January 2007 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

Went to a house party in Mile End, drank champagne, got messed up, got into taxi to warehouse party in Stoke Newington, got even more messed up, came home about 6.30am in a bit of a mood after some cockfarmer stole my housemate's coat. After the last couple of years I had very high expectations that weren't quite fulfilled but it was a lot of fun in places.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 1 January 2007 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

it was us and a couple of friends, we sat outside around a fire, listened to guns go off in the distance (and not-so-far distance) at midnight, passed around champagne, and smooched.

went inside, ate pizza, watched twilight zone, and zzzzzz.

made a devine bfast this morning, blackeyed peas & cabbage for dinner!
watching naked gun & razorback game. will probably go visit friends for awhile. tennis was brought up, too.

AiLien (AMD), Monday, 1 January 2007 19:14 (nineteen years ago)

resolutions: do something with the third bedroom, which now serves as hell-space storage. turn into guest room/music room.

be funnier.

start minimalist woodworking.

AiLien (AMD), Monday, 1 January 2007 19:19 (nineteen years ago)

I'll eat some peas, but ugh I don't want cabbage today, and don't feel like going to my parents' garden for mustard greens. Maybe I'll get the stuff to make spinach dip and let that be my greens for the day.

The PEW Research Center for Panty-Twisting (Rock Hardy), Monday, 1 January 2007 19:26 (nineteen years ago)

last nite more eating than drinking, at least Im not hangovered.

today went bowling w/the family. gonna take a nap now. tommorow work and school resume. 2007 resolution: stop calling people "dudes" !

so happy new years, uh, folks.

I don't have to go to work tomorrow!!!

The governor has ordered the university closed in honor of Gerald Ford. Hell yeah!!

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 1 January 2007 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

Very quiet. I forsook a party (I'd seen my best friends on the 30th) to attend a family function. Feasted on a spectacular paella. Rang in the new year with Grand Marnier and flan. Home by 1:30.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 1 January 2007 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

Did the welcoming last night. With a nice little company of friends. All pigging on a dlicious potato, chilly and pig dish. And sauerkraut. (With astonishingly little allround farting ensuing from all that, honest). And then a little vodka and champagne. Then walking home through the pretty desolate town towards 4 in the morning.
Which was nice.

tiit (t**t), Monday, 1 January 2007 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

also watching a lot of football today

remy bean (bean), Monday, 1 January 2007 20:49 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, today - watching a coupla very fine & funny Russian movies on the telly, too.

tiit (t**t), Monday, 1 January 2007 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

Fought tears back with my wife, sister in law and mother in law as we remembered her dad who passed away in the summer. Obv. rather more downbeat than usual.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 1 January 2007 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

I went to see Fucked Up in London who were completely great, and randomly met some people I know there which was cool. Failed to find much happening after that, which was a shame, although we did get a pint in a unassuming pub at about 5am. Pretty good overall, and I missed all the shit weather while either on a bus or in a venue.
