Prediction Thread number one: Tony Blair to quit before the end of October.

Was going to say end of Sept, but decided to cut myself some slack.

Why? The bobbins yesterday about hooligan foetuses, and the general 'I'll talk about what I like!' aspect of yesterdays interview. Add a side order of "I'm not speculating about my handover" and you know it makes sense.

That hooligan foetuses comment was very disturbing. Was he really saying that it was possible to identify potential hooligans before they were born (and, by inference, that something ought to be done about it)? It sounded an awful lot like our PM was advocating that potentially bad people should be aborted.

for all the clamour to be about importance of Blair naming a specific TIME and DATE of departure perhaps Labour should really be exploring candidates to replace him (or is everyone really so settled on Brown? esp. with impending sense that he would not win against Cameron).

konaldoddz, Friday, 1 September 2006 12:20 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't think anyone else has the power-base within the party necessary to win.

or is everyone really so settled on Brown?

Brown's too Scottish, let's have John Reid instead, errrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

>> i don't think anyone else has the power-base within the party necessary to win.

Yeah srsly if Brown can't beat Cameron who can?

I'm just hoping Cameron is peaking too early or something. Or that people would realise he's a tory cunt who happens to be good at PR. Or that Labour would stop being so fucking shit. Or pigs might fly past my window.

I'm glad I wasn't born now though. I'd definitely be on the hooligan foetus list.

hooligan foetus is my favourite band.

Name a Hooligan Foetus lyric.

Your search - "hooligan foetus" - did not match any documents.

Suggestions:

* Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
* Try different keywords.
* Try more general keywords.

Why doesn't Blair just bring back the workhouse and be done with it?

Blair wants you dead, Cameron just wants to give you big huggles...unless...it's a trap?

I've said it before but put money on Allan Johnson being next pm, the cuddly voter friendly unity candidate stepping daintily over the carnage as Brown and Reid beat each other to a bloody pulp.

"So Mr Corrigan, we've examined your loan application and I have one question. Are you a pathetic, worthless punk?"
"Er, well, no."
"Right. Because I'm going to turn you down as if you were a hippy parasite. Then I'll make you feel like a turkey fucker.
Why? Because I'm the big man and you're a shit heel, right?

Or... I could treat Mr Corrigan like a valued and respected customer
and we'd both end up winners."

Sorry for my ignorance about the british gvmt, but when
does Blair HAVE to step down? Does he have an open-ended
mandate? How do they force him out?

Squirrel Police, Friday, 1 September 2006 22:54 (eighteen years ago) link

They get five years in office, then he has to ask the Queen to call an election. He'd still be the leader of the Labour party though, and can only be removed from that job by a vote of the ruling executive and the parliamentary party. Which isn't going to happen.

Google+ To Reach 400 Million Users Within A Year, Statistician Predicts

Google+, the six-month-old site on which Google has pinned its social networking hopes and dreams, will have 400 million users within a year.

That's the bullish prediction made by Paul Allen, the founder of Ancestry.com and a self-described "unofficial statistician" for Google+.

Allen wrote in a post on Google+ that, according to his calculations, the social network has surpassed 62 million users and is adding 625,000 people each day, a number he expects will grow and help Google+ to reach 400 million users by this time next year.

Allen argues that the pace at which Google+ adds new members will speed up as more users join the service.

"I expect the growth to continue to accelerate however," Allen wrote. "Google can continue to integrate Google+ into its other products and word of mouth will continue to build. Most importantly, 700,000 Android devices are activated daily and this will become a very significant source of new users for Google+. That number will also grow next year."

Google has been mum about the size of Google+'s userbase since October, when Google CEO Larry Page announced that Google+ had surpassed 40 million members. A Google spokeswoman declined to comment on Allen's estimates.

Tony Blair quit in June 2007.

Only 8 months out.

Note that there was never a "Prediction Thread number two"...
