Venom 18, the autistic spy (flezaffe), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:09 (seventeen years ago) link

thats what that thread was? people to make your thread titles clearer in u&k matters of this type please!

Ste (fuzzy), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:18 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah for real, we could've known about this 24 hours ago

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:29 (seventeen years ago) link

sorry :-(

latebloomer: glutton for PUNishment (clonefeed), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:33 (seventeen years ago) link

to be fair to you I'm surprised at myself for not clicking on a thread with 'dueling robots' in the title in the first place.

Ste (fuzzy), Thursday, 21 December 2006 14:49 (seventeen years ago) link

but it also sez "and the strokes"

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:06 (seventeen years ago) link

i didn't even see the other thread but if i had i would indeed have been mindful of the 'strokes' reference.

sede vacante (blueski), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:09 (seventeen years ago) link

yes i think the Strokes reference put me well off

Ste (fuzzy), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:13 (seventeen years ago) link

anyhoo the trailer rules. I bet seeing it in the theater would have completely blown my mind. As is

1. I love the fact that they show you the bare minimum of robots. even if you freeze-frame through the whole thing you only catch teasing glimpses of anything in robot mode, from odd angles with all kinds of shit obscuring the view, like exploding buses, fleeing soldiers, etc.

2. I like that the US DOD is involved straightaway in the whole mess, it makes a lot more sense provides for a lot more kaboom than the cartoons' conceit that somehow these massive fuckoff killing machines are somehow so good at keeping themselves and their spats under wraps that the army never shows up until the GI Joe crossover

3. What we do get to see of the robots looks totally fucking awesome, kudos for giving bumblebee a bug face and making the decepticons scary as shit

4. waht wif soldier's face going all blinkety-blink terminator underneath the skin? I fear that which I do not understand

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:20 (seventeen years ago) link

it could be a transformer pilot, like to complete the disguise ?

Ste (fuzzy), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:22 (seventeen years ago) link

i think this will be only as good as...X-Men 3. hm.

the next trailer needs less US military geezers and more TFs actually saying stuff.

sede vacante (blueski), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:23 (seventeen years ago) link

*views*

Might this be Michael Bay's first actually good film? (Then again, X-Men 3 IS a pretty cold comparison.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:24 (seventeen years ago) link

OH #4, it is the fake pilot in the cockpit of fake helicopter that is actually a large sociopathic robot, still, HUGE BREACH OF CANON

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Fuck you Ned Bad Boys 2 and The Island are awesome

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:25 (seventeen years ago) link

Look at least you didn't say Armageddon and Pearl Harbor, then I would fear.

I admit in the trailer I was waiting for That Theme Song.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 December 2006 15:27 (seventeen years ago) link

On the soundtrack:

Thransfomers Theme - McFly (Island)

Although you don't get to hear them in this, I think we can all rest assured knowing that Frank Welker & Peter Cullen once again voice Megatron & Prime.

FUN FACT: I somehow didn't know Frank Welker is also the voice of SCOOBY DOO, but guess what guys, MEGATRON = SCOOBY DOO.

In fact it seems like it would be hard to find a cartoon from any era of the past 30ish years that Frank Welker DIDN'T lend his voice to.

re tom's point 4, why can't there be a hologram? doesn't seem a huge issue

also, i hope that it touches on some mideast war for oil/energon shit

I mean, making a seeing up conflict over energon instead of over any real righteous cause would be an lol bigger than doogie hauser in an SS uniform

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:48 (seventeen years ago) link

"HUGE BREACH OF CANON"
They've done that before. One of the cartoons had an entire fleet of decepticons created by hologram, while the real ones were busy filling Energon cubes miles away. The Autobots attacked the fakes, the fules.

stet (stet), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:50 (seventeen years ago) link

i want a steampunk version of transformers, set in 1888

latebloomer: glutton for PUNishment (clonefeed), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:50 (seventeen years ago) link

or a stone-age version, crossover w/the flintstones

latebloomer: glutton for PUNishment (clonefeed), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:53 (seventeen years ago) link

no I don't mean holograms as breach of canon I mean pilots/drivers as breach of canon, doesn't anybody remember passersby always yapping about "ain't nobody drivin' that car!!" all the time?

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

well the whole thing's pretty much a breach of canon

that reminds me, they should have created a decepticon that turns into a cannon, named "Breach"

latebloomer: glutton for PUNishment (clonefeed), Thursday, 21 December 2006 18:56 (seventeen years ago) link

how did the humans fit inside the transformed autobots, anyway? was it in some sorta weird battloid/guardian mode?

this is actually a really good trailer, it shows a lot without showing too much and keeps things mysterious. also love the non-use of music!

I'm not a Bay-hater, but I gotta say that this trailer was pretty underwhelming... Clips of stuff that I saw in the trailers for Independence Day, Matrix Reloaded, etc. etc.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:21 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah and all those movies were fucking awesome

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

"man this lord of the rings shit, I saw this stuff in Conan"

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah I did like how Conan and Subotai hugged each other a lot at the end.

(This said Independence Day was the first thing I thought of too.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:26 (seventeen years ago) link

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

also matrix reloaded was not fucking awesome, tom.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:27 (seventeen years ago) link

in a roundabout sort of way i was reminded of this

jhoshea (jhoshea), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:29 (seventeen years ago) link

chaki you just hate awesome movies

TOM. BOT. (trm), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

no I don't mean holograms as breach of canon I mean pilots/drivers as breach of canon, doesn't anybody remember passersby always yapping about "ain't nobody drivin' that car!!" all the time?

In the comics Ratchet installed holographic projectors that simulated human beings to prevent this.

So, is Starscream in this -- voiced by Cobra Commander?

Fuck you Ned Bad Boys 2 and The Island are awesome

I COMPLETELY AGREE

This trailer is great and (aside from "Pearl Harbor" aka "That Fucking Awful Movie, God") I like Michael Bay movies. However, I still have trepidation about this movie (and I never saw the original one).

(Also Matrix Reloaded was awesome, esp. the highway scene.)

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

revolutions was soooooooo bad though

latebloomer: glutton for PUNishment (clonefeed), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

"The Island" was great because it felt like a 2-hour toothpaste commercial, esp. the end where all the people dressed in white are running across the big red rocks--"THESE ROCKS ARE YOUR TEETH COVERED IN PLAQUE, AND THOSE CLONES ARE CREST WHITENING TOOTHPASTE."

max (maxreax), Thursday, 21 December 2006 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, the trailer was underwhelming -- like watching a chintzy Terminator. The young guy (Spike Witwicky?) is cute though. Do you think Megatron will transform into a bull and rape him?

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

No, I don't think that will happen.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

I think the world is being fooled - the real film is a straight ahead animated old school Transformers!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

No fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:07 (seventeen years ago) link

If Bay and co. really wanted to get frisky, they would have cast Teela, Man-at-Arms, and Lion-O to help the earthlings, leaving Skeletor, Mumm-Ra, and Mer-Man to squabble tetchily with an amused Megatron.

Alfred Soto (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 21 December 2006 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Unlikely, as he is dead.

the thing about the hologram is...why reveal a robotic face within it? the decep's face would not be visible within the hologram as it would be buried somewhere in the copter itself. and there's no point him projecting the image of his face thru the hologram at all. STUPIDOCON.

Hunh. Didn't know this:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0490383/bio

He was the original voice of Nuclear-plant-owner C. Montgomery Burns on "The Simpsons", before circumstances forced him to turn the role over to Harry Shearer after the first few apearances. Shearer modeled his performance after Latta's, and was able to seamlessly assume the role.

Also originally provided the voice of Moe the bartender on "The Simpsons".
