There's at least 60 years worth of WWII flicks, so lets start sorting.

Escape to Victory.

Also, what about the Clint Eastwood movies? Is Where Eagles Dare actually any good?

Off the top of my head, the best ones are:

Kelly's Heroes, for the wacked-out, "of its time" humour and cynicism, especially the bit where they bribe the commander of the tiger tank into joining them.

Cross of Iron, for its intensity & fatalistic outlook.

There was another one that really impressed me, but I'm damned if I can think of the title.

Where Eagles Dare is OK, but there's a WTFness about seeing Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood in a film together.

The bit at the end on the gondola is pretty classic.

The Battle Of The Bulge could have been good except that it was filmed in Spain. SPAIN! Not exactly the Ardennes in winter. Robert Shaw's performance as a german colonel tank dude made it somewhat bearable.

Midway was very good. I appreciate films that used actual combat footage and pretty much stuck to the facts. Plus in this one you get to see Pat Morita get blown up!

Hmmm. Two with Henry Fonda!

'where eagles dare' fucking owns.
