will be taking place in BOROUGH, sarf of the river, on Friday 29th December, starting at 3ish in the wheatsheaf on borough market. Further details on Freaky Trigger, somewhat obviously.

Come one, come all. If only to see how much Tim can moan about going to the George...

CarsmileSteve (Carsmile Steve), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Can I bring my mum?

Yes, to warn any haterz I *will* be attending, so if you have a problem with that... you know what to do.

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I shall be there. That's a good crawl there are two opportunities to get a a pint of Mild in (The Royal Oak, definitely, if it's open, and the market porter often has one on)

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I am just so pleased that it's Sarf this year.

OK, barely Sarf, but still. Sarf!

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm presuming there will be time to stop for PIES at the Royal Oak?

(Can I safely assume that all the pubs are very interesting architecturally, one of them will be closed or refuse to serve us for no reason and we'll all probably end up staying in the one that fits us best?)

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to crawl pubs. :(

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

cool. I'll be there. I've never been to Borough. I always thought it was a crazy name. Can't help wondering whether there are also places around the world called Town, County ect ect...

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Did I bring my mum to one before? Or did I just bring my brother?

My mum is convinced that she *has* been to a FAP.

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Also this is the best run of pubs in any FT pub crawl. Where's the dodgy Borough equivalent of the London Pub?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:21 (seventeen years ago) link

I seem to remember that you did, Kate.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I, for one, will be disappointed if I can't get my chops round a steak and kidney pudding.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

(I think Kate's mum came to the Madchen/Ally C FAP that was supposed to be in the King's Arms but ended up in that godforsaken Fire Station place. Kate's brother was on the British Museum Star Of David pub crawl which was only a few days later).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:26 (seventeen years ago) link

The Star of David crawl was one of the best, if not THE best! We went right through the museum!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh that's right. I distinctly remember losing my brother in the British Museum during a shortcut.

And my mum was at that weird Fire Station place and decided that she hated FAPs because of it.

I'm sure we could go to that dodgy bar in London Bridge station if you want a horrible pub, DC!

masonic boom (kate), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 16:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Matt, The George is around as good as The London Pub, but a bit more expensive and slightly less welcoming. Better beer though. Sometimes.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:04 (seventeen years ago) link

I might come, though south of the River scares me, there be danger there.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Can we have a map showing the route please?

I might venture near south of the river.. that is if I manage to make it out of my house at all after christmas

jellybean (jellybean), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

will this do?

CarsmileSteve (Carsmile Steve), Thursday, 21 December 2006 12:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Awesomeness! Can't wait!

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Thursday, 21 December 2006 12:51 (seventeen years ago) link

If we stop for pies in the Royal Oak that is where we will be staying whether we like it or not, the pies being the size of Dawson Leery's face!

Good good see you all in pub #1.

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Our betwixt Xmas and New Year trip to big ol' Lunding has had to be put on hold due to me stupidly chucking in a well-paid job with nothing else to go to having a financially precarious "career break", so I shall not be joining you, despite earlier threats to the contrary. Have fun!

(not that my flight would have got there anyway due to probable week-long backlog of BA flights into and out of Heathrow)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh noes! Well I will have to try Glasgow in 2007 in that case.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Do they have vegetablearian pies? I like the sound of pies the size of your face.

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:12 (seventeen years ago) link

I am tempted to make a special ponce stop at The Roxy - a bar which apparently has a cinema in it!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerry the Nipper), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:15 (seventeen years ago) link

We're not going all the way to Brixton, are we?

masonic boom (kate), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:16 (seventeen years ago) link

The shape reminds me of portland bill

Ed (dali), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:42 (seventeen years ago) link

the George Inn on Borough High Street is an amazing looking building! Looks huge, too.

It's really weird, even though I've never been to Borough I've been to lots of places very near it. London Bridge station of course, but also the Clink Prison Museum and Southwark Cathedral.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Ooh Jerry, I'm keen to see the bar cinema too.

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:30 (seventeen years ago) link

hooray, i finally get to come to one of these! (Assuming fog has lifted by next week)

colette (colette), Friday, 22 December 2006 00:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I remember your mum, Kate.

I think my friends the Rockers will be here, so I might bring them.

Hang on, I am teetoototal.

I vote for the Roxy too. I fear that the Quality (copyright PF) will all end up in the Roxy.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 22 December 2006 10:02 (seventeen years ago) link

The chance of multiple pubs serving mild makes me very happy.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 22 December 2006 10:08 (seventeen years ago) link

geez you guys are always doing fun stuff...

substitute, mitya for him (mitya), Friday, 22 December 2006 10:09 (seventeen years ago) link

The George isn't 'huge' as such, its kind of long and narrow.

Is it sad that I look forward to the BXANYPC more than almost all other Wobs events?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 22 December 2006 12:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Rargh, I'll be joining you all for at least a little bit of this, somewhere along the line.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 28 December 2006 11:35 (seventeen years ago) link

bah i haf TEH POORLY :(

hopefully it is just MANFLU and i will be fine tomorrow, but i feel pretty crappy today...

CarsmileSteve (Carsmile Steve), Thursday, 28 December 2006 13:08 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm picking up various old and nu school sinisters alike from differing airports tomorrow so might have to miss this. unless i can work out a way from gatwick to borough and not accidentally end up at my house first (likely). i'd only be causing arguments anyway.

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 28 December 2006 13:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Bugger. May have to skip this due to finances not being what they should.

marianna longmire (marianna lcl), Thursday, 28 December 2006 13:28 (seventeen years ago) link

I have LADY POORLY oh NOES! I will still be along hopefully a bit better tomorrow. My germs are only from a 3yr old so HOW LONG could they linger for eh?

Sarah (Science of Unforunate Events), Thursday, 28 December 2006 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Drink hot whisky in every pub. It's the only way.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:08 (seventeen years ago) link

We must demand mulled ale.

Ed (dali), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I've had one of those not-quite-a-cold-but-oh-my-throat-feels-a-bit-rough things for the last few days. I'm currently fighting it off with some lovely medicinal wobs gin.

robster (robster), Thursday, 28 December 2006 18:37 (seventeen years ago) link

TODAY! Hooray! Work seems fairly relaxed and no-one will even notice if I slink off an hour or two early.

It seems I will have guests at home tonight, but that's not going to stop me coming to the FTBXANYPCMMVI, no it's not.

It might give me an excellent excuse to avoid the George though.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 29 December 2006 11:26 (seventeen years ago) link

:(

I was looking forward to watching you moan about being in the George.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 December 2006 11:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Let's make him drink outside in compensation

Ed (dali), Friday, 29 December 2006 11:56 (seventeen years ago) link

There are tables outside The George! This plan is AN WINNER.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 29 December 2006 11:57 (seventeen years ago) link

The plan where you lot suffer in the cold outside the George while I go home and drink delicious port in the warm with my brother and sister-in-law does sound like 1x win.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 29 December 2006 12:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Urgh, excess booze last night = no booze today for me. Doubt I can even face leaving the house :-(

ledge (ledge), Friday, 29 December 2006 12:50 (seventeen years ago) link

at this rate it'll just be pete and matt...

i'm feeling better, but have a rly painful coff that is hurting a lot. i might come along later though.

CarsmileSteve (Carsmile Steve), Friday, 29 December 2006 13:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be along a few pubs in, I have to finish making quince cheese.

Ed (dali), Friday, 29 December 2006 13:34 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm still most likely not coming and will be not drinking because i will be driving and i THINK.

ken c (ken c), Friday, 29 December 2006 13:42 (seventeen years ago) link

People slighted my integrity in many different ways. You are all so jihadded before I next see you.

Did the Ukrainian Othodox church make it in as an element? It should.

Ed (dali), Saturday, 30 December 2006 14:28 (seventeen years ago) link

It was fun! And my mum even came down for AN drink.

Ed had the best shirt, but I had the best cardigan. Amen.
