Howdy glasgow denizens,

I am once more in yr fair city between Christmas and Hogmanay. Best day for afternoon/early evening FAPpage for me is 27th, although this might not suit everyone.

Make yr bids now. NOT MONO.

Well I'm also going to be in Glasgow for the holidays and the 27th is theoretically doable for me but it depends on the location.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 09:55 (seventeen years ago) link

27th is good for me. Anywhere in Glasgow is fine, though I'd rather it was somewhere in the city centre.

Onimo has his finger in the stink (nu_onimo), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I have to "commute" from Bothwell, so city centre would also be preferable.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:04 (seventeen years ago) link

City centre is as traditional as the rest of it.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm off on 27th so i might make the trip through if it's an afternoon/early evening FAP.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Bastards, I just booked my bus home from Inverness to come back on the afternoon of the 28th. If 28th is a viable option can we please change it to then instead? Please? I'll be your ally in the "not-Mono" stakes?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:14 (seventeen years ago) link

We are poking the MegaWatt with sharp sticks on 28th, as far as I know.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:46 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh well, I am too poor to go to the pub anyway.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:56 (seventeen years ago) link

the 27th is about the only night i'll be able to do, so this suits me down to the ground. my friend and his new girlfriend will be in town from san francisco, and i'm not sure what they'll be wanting to do, but i'll certainly catch you in some way, shape or form, al.

and it'd be excellent to meet you too, marcello.

so aye, count me in, wherever we go.

grimly fiendish (simon), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 10:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I'll be getting off my plane at about 8pm on the 27th so assuming things are running on time I'll be along for a swift arf before closing.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 13:02 (seventeen years ago) link

not arf!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 19 December 2006 13:12 (seventeen years ago) link

pl count me in for this!

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 20 December 2006 09:25 (seventeen years ago) link

So has anything been settled for this venuewise (tell me this afternoon 'cos I'll be away from computers after that!).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, this is Glasgow, I wouldn't bet on it.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:47 (seventeen years ago) link

That's what I thought...in that case, suppose I email my mobile number to someone here and then you can text me the details when known?

*volunteers please don't all rush at once &c.*

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:52 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, somebody who knows anything about glasgow pubs pick somewhere. Otherwise I'll probably end up saying Alpen Lodge again.

(aye, mail me yr mobile Marcello and I'll let you know. This address works.)

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Alpen Lodge is great! I had a top time in there last time we were there.

(I'm still toying with the idea of getting an earlier bus home after Christmas.)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 13:57 (seventeen years ago) link

i'd be happy with the alpen lodge too. M: i assume you've already e-mailed ailsa? if not, feel free to e-mail me. weesimon AT mac DOT com is the best address to use.

be aware that ailsa is a more (usually) punctual pub-goer than i am, so you're probably better off dealing with her in the first instance :)

see you on the 27th!

grimly fiendish (simon), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I've emailed Aldo, but thanks anyway.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not going! I'll be in Inverness!

(though this may be subject to change, depending on how bored I get and whether I think you mob will be better company)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 16:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Make yr bids now. NOT MONO.

what's wrong with Mono?

The Real Dirty Vicar (The Real Dirty Vicar), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

New round here, are you?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:08 (seventeen years ago) link

j/k, btw, I missed all the "is you is or is you ain't DV" shit on the other thread until right now!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:10 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not new round here. I do not live in Glasgow, but have enjoyed visits to Mono when there.

The Real Dirty Vicar (The Real Dirty Vicar), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I knew that, hence the quick "oh shit, I was joking and I have to explain now that I was joking" post.

Mono = in a stupid place, sells horrible beer, has horrible food, high probability of running into Stephen Pastel. At least the 13th Note has proper Guinness and not yer manky Sam Smith's shite.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 21 December 2006 17:20 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm w/ you DV, i just don't understand the Mono hatred

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Thursday, 21 December 2006 22:32 (seventeen years ago) link

world of glasgow

cozeny (cozeny), Thursday, 21 December 2006 22:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Ward, they must be enemies of vegan food.

I don't actually know what Stephen Pastel looks like. he owns the record shop in the pub? (A record shop IN A PUB... what's not to like?)

The Real Dirty Vicar (The Real Dirty Vicar), Thursday, 21 December 2006 23:33 (seventeen years ago) link

More like friends of meat.

See you all on 27th in the Alpen then. I'll be there at 5-ish, I think.

Onimo has his finger in the stink (nu_onimo), Friday, 22 December 2006 12:54 (seventeen years ago) link

Decided then.

Alpen Lodge, I should get there about 3. I have Marcello's number.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Friday, 22 December 2006 13:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't mind Mono, but we went through a phase of going there *every* *single* *time* we had a FAP and I got sick of it. I'm nearly ready to go back, but only once in a while. I like Bar 91. It does excellent G&T and also has West Beer.

I may not be able to come now - it depends on the fog on Saturday evening when I'm due to fly to Heathrow. If I can't, I'll drive and that'll mean driving back on the 27th and not arriving in Glasgow until after pubtime that night.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 22 December 2006 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Could someone post directions for the Alpen Lodge pl, last time I tried to find it I got terribly lost and someone on here took the piss out of me for being so useless :-(

DV, i wldn't recognise Stephen Pastel (do you think it's his real name?) either, and i once saw the Pastels supporting Pavement at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. they were rubbish

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Friday, 22 December 2006 19:39 (seventeen years ago) link

i like mono a lot. but i think my insistence on going there ALL THE TIME put ailsa off rather.

i've no idea what time i'll be there on the 27th, but be there at some point i shall. yes.

grimly fiendish (simon), Friday, 22 December 2006 19:43 (seventeen years ago) link

1. Stand at the main door to Central Station (with yr back to the station, so looking on to Gordon Street).
2. Turn 90˚ left.
3. Walk to end of street.
4. Turn 90˚ left.
5. Walk straight down street, not as far as big crossroads.
6. Alpen Lodge is across road, on the right-hand side.

stet (stet), Friday, 22 December 2006 19:47 (seventeen years ago) link

Alternate route:

1. Go down escalator at platform 11/12 in Central Station
2. Exit station on right
3. Pub is opposite you and up the street a smidgen
4. Get Gerry a pint

Onimo has his finger in the stink (nu_onimo), Friday, 22 December 2006 21:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Or, walk through the tunnelly bit under Central Station away from the Fopp side towards the Arches end. Turn right as soon as you're through the tunnelly bit. The Alpen Lodge is on the left, on the other side of the road.

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 23 December 2006 11:44 (seventeen years ago) link

It looks like my flights are going to be OK, so I'll be there (as long as the fog doesn't return on Wednesday).

Madchen (Madchen), Saturday, 23 December 2006 11:45 (seventeen years ago) link

Yay! I don't know when I'm leaving, as I hear rumblings of something going on in the evening I'm expected to be at.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 23 December 2006 12:41 (seventeen years ago) link

Thank you for the directions everyone, I think I know where I'm going now

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Saturday, 23 December 2006 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

bumpity bump

See whoever's going this afternoon. I'm aiming for 4pm or thereabouts. Hopefully this godawful hangover will have abated by then.

Yay! I don't know when I'm leaving, as I hear rumblings of something going on in the evening I'm expected to be at.

but but it's your fap!!1!

can't make this now :-((

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Wednesday, 27 December 2006 17:36 (seventeen years ago) link

afternoon gerry. how's the head? you missed out on cathouse japery :)

grimly fiendish (simon), Thursday, 28 December 2006 13:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Head was busting this morning. Didn't go to work :( It was great to see you again and meet your friends, even if I did keep forgetting everyone's names.

Aldo's coming to mine tonight for more drinking. Not sure how long I can keep this up.

Onimo drank ALL the wine! (nu_onimo), Thursday, 28 December 2006 13:32 (seventeen years ago) link

i find "until the liver pain becomes unbearable" a reasonable maxim.

but yes, it was a top night. the "house lager" particularly :)

grimly fiendish (simon), Thursday, 28 December 2006 16:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I am so sorry I missed this. I did text some sort of rambling apologies to Onimo on behalf of myself and Madchen and Stet, but he may well have left by the time I got round to it, since I was in a pub full of jovial Inverness Caley Thistle fans (I decided to become a jovial Inverness Caley Thistle fan even though I hate them) and I was fairly drunk.

(Onimo, will your "not sure how long I can keep this drinking up" attempt at sobriety preclude you from Saturday lunchtime Celtic-watching?)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Thursday, 28 December 2006 21:10 (seventeen years ago) link

rambling apologies also due from me; mum & i were in glasgow last wednesday doing ubershopping but it all ran very late and by 3:30 i was knackered & it was dark & drookit so I'm afraid we just got the bus back home :-( sorry to miss everyone but maybe in spring when the days are a wee bit longer...
