I really want lovely Emma to win SCD, but apparently the public disagree due to Emma's continued failure to find favour with the voting public who don't fancy her as much as Mark Ramprakash. Ray, despite his pwnage of the "ow mine ears" award last week, is scaring the bookies in X Factor. Semis of SCD, final of X Factor tonight. Who's with me?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Last night's X Factor run-up to the final was unbelievably Ray-friendly, and actually described Leona as lacking in personality at one point. I still think in terms of voting it'll be Michelle vs Mark from the last Pop Idol all over again, but we'll see.

I think I went on enough about how much I wub Emma Bunton last week.

Also, you missed out Polar Bears Falling Down Slides: The Final.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Karen Hardy = OMGOMG uber-phwoar. I love her.

Da Mystery of Sandboxin' (fandango), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I've just been explaining to the mister how I think I might be biased towards Mark Ramprakash because Karen is so lovely and engaging. She's so pretty.

I think Ray may win because he needs it more than Leona. She will undoubtedly have a fantastic career without winning. Without this, he's just "dude who didn't win the X Factor".

OMG, they've wheeled out some uber-confident version of Sean!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, aldo, I'm going out to the pub straight after the first show, want to text me the results?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

OMG, Westlife backing Ray!

Neil: "they've just blown it for him by blowing him right out of the water"

Still, way to nail the girlie vote...

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

(bookies odds on Ray replacing Brian McFadden permanently, anyone?)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:41 (seventeen years ago) link

That was kind of odd, because there was a bit on last night's show saying Ray really wanted to do That's Life tonight but Simon refused because "it tells the same story as My Way and you've already said you want to do that." Hmm.

Aye, I'll text you the results.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Leona's getting Take That out, isn't she?

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Ray pwned!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:48 (seventeen years ago) link

(bookies odds on Ray replacing Brian McFadden permanently, anyone?)

Bookies odd on Leona being the next Fat Dancer?

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Haha, next Lulu, mebbes.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm at work, stationed next to the telly, so I think this is my first ever live watching of The X Factor. I saw a repeat a couple of weeks ago, which had Ray doing 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'. This has pretty much settled my sympathies quite some way away from him.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of have some residual sympathy for him based on swing Waterloo. Also, y'know, he killed Imelda Clough.

I *hate* this "let's laugh at the shite people" thing. I sense an oncoming Pizza Hut advert.

(still, best song ever to take the piss to)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

(I missed whole of Polar Bear Falling Down Slides, based on the assumption that the rest of the series wouldn't actually be better than polar bears falling down slides. Was I right?)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet you wish you'd gone to the pub before that. Best bit: Edna's daughter completely missing her cue and barely getting the last word in.

(I haven't been watching Polar Bear Falling Down Slides either, after we abandoned it to see Queue For Gang Of Four.)

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

And here's the X Factor auditionees. Thankfully, a call saves me from hearing that. It ends just as the Pink album gets advertised. Swings, roundabouts, etc.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear Ray: Piss off.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:08 (seventeen years ago) link

Ray has thankfully stopped being "ow, mine ears". Which is nice. I foresee a future of being the musical guest on Parky before fading into total obscurity. Like a shite Michael Buble.

(Neil has gone to the pub already, sadly I am staying to watch this)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Louis: you're not a one-trick pony.
Sharon: there's nothing you can't do.

If there's one thing Ray is, it's a one-trick pony. There's lots of things he can't do. He can only do this sort of thing. He does it OK. It's not exactly great, is it?

Ray's "please vote for both of us" = "love me love me I'm nice"

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Jeff Brazier is: 1) in a crowd in Liverpool; 2) wearing a suit. Good grief.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:13 (seventeen years ago) link

I also kind of like how celebrity OB support leaders are Jeff "shagged someone who didn't win Big Brother, did shite reality TV on the back of it" Brazier and Myleene "won this sort of thing, didn't win jungle stuff on the back of it" Klass. This is your future panning out in front of you, Ray and Leona.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:14 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh god, they've broken out the Eric Carmen.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:15 (seventeen years ago) link

She did the big note thing. She's going to win.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:17 (seventeen years ago) link

(and Simon agrees)

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Given that note, I am quite literally amazed she didn't suddenly segue into doing the end of 'Lovely Day' too, just for shits and giggles.

Simon Cowell thinks that final note may have just won her the X-Factor. Christ on a bicycle I hate this programme.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Leona is dreaming of world peace.

Let's go to East London.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

East London quite literally appears to have exactly the same architecture as Liverpool.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Myleene Klass, there, displaying all the skills that made her tenure of CD:UK such an unmitigated success.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Ashley wins "ow mine ears"!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Closely followed by Nikitta.

Robert should totally have been in the final

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Let us reunite the twelve acts! And part the Red Sea, while we're at it. Some doors vaguely open, this is the feller who's related to Duke McKenzie. My home-town pride just disintegrated.

What is shirt-boy doing?

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

STILTSKIN LIVES!

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Eton Road = ow mine ears

MacDonalds, surprisingly OK

Ben, yeah, you can growl a bit with a sensitive side. We get it.

Ray and Leona doing themselves no favours at all.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:23 (seventeen years ago) link

One of the finalists appears to be Toyah, and one of the others looks to be Estelle. There's the McDonald Brothers. Jesus H.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:24 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, how did they get Kerry onto the stage?

Seriously, how did Robert not get through (apart from the whole nu-Chico shite he was pulling?) - he's got a great voice.

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:25 (seventeen years ago) link

and one of the others looks to be Estelle

Don Estelle, possibly.

much_aldo_about_nothing (much_aldo_about_nothing), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:33 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of don't want to go to the pub. This is WRONG. Al, please text later with roffletastic result. SCD results would be good too. Cheers!

ailsa_xx (ailsa_xx), Saturday, 16 December 2006 20:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Leona wins, btw.

Andi Peters is at a CD plant! Am tempted to ask where he crawled out from.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Saturday, 16 December 2006 22:24 (seventeen years ago) link

I've just been explaining to the mister how I think I might be biased towards Mark Ramprakash because Karen is so lovely and engaging. She's so pretty.

By contrast, all I see is someone so hyper-competitive about the whole thing now that she's finally gotten her hands on a decent contestant that she oozes desperation to win from every pore. I don't like her. I think the professionals should be more relaxed about it. I know they are all desperate to win, but there's something undignified about how baldly she shows it. I don't like that stupid mugging she does when she dances either.

I was sorry that Emma got knocked out because people don't vote for her. I had always thought of her as basically nice but vapid, but now she just kind of seems nice.
