Gifts (for lads) to go in Christmas crackers : a list

I've made my own Christmas Crackers but am short of ideas for nice little presents to put in them. I can think of a few ideas to go in the ones for the girls (pairs of earrings, miniature bottles of perfume etc etc) but I'm stumped when it comes to finding nice stuff to go in the ones for the boys.

(Christmas Crackers may be just a British tradition, I'm not sure, so for those who are playing overseas, they look like this:

http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/englishteastore_1927_15292570

so the gifts need to be quite small to fit inside them)

Inspire me, o sandbox! What would you like to get inside your christmas cracker? Make me a list!

The ones I have made are reasonably big, the central space to put the gift in is about 15cm long with a diameter of about 6cm.

Here in america we not only have christmas crackers, but also kwaanzaa coons and hannukah hebes.

Would whisky miniatures fit?

I got a tape measure in one last week, which I was initially confused by but then realised was a perfect excuse to hilariously "take the measurements" of the ladies around me. Just a bit of fun you understand.

Eight-inch jack to RCA adaptor.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

Moustache comb.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

1/4" to 3.5mm jack adapter would be more useful.

Ed (dali), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

cufflinks
tie pins
jeweller's screwdrivers

Ed (dali), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

I did in fact mean "eighth-inch" jack.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

Tiny bottle of Old Spice.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Keyring with BMW logo on it.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Golf tees.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Butt plug.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Miniature booze is a good idea. I don't know many men who wear cufflinks or tie pins. I guess I could try and find keyrings for the type of car each person drives.

I want to find something a bit quirkier and unusual, I s'pose.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:26 (nineteen years ago)

Butt plug is a great idea, except there will be children at the table, and I'm not sure I want to have to explain it to them.

Although maybe it could be quite entertaining.

Somebody in my family always gets one of those mini torches from someone. This year, it's my sister giving a minitorch to my Dad (she told me last night).

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

A butt plug would be too large, surely? Apart from those tiny jewellery-style ones, but they're a bit expensive.

I've often seen crackers with jeweller's screwdrivers in, incidentally. Very handy for woodwind musicians.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:36 (nineteen years ago)

Little tiny decks of cards? Bookie size pens? Little wind-up race cars?

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Those plastic monster puppets that go on your finger and have wiggly arms -- may be an American thing but surely there's equivalent? Miniature Swiss army knives (you know, the little ones with toothpicks). A keyring compass. Sock garters all rolled up. Pairs of dice, maybe in specialty colors (white dots on red etc).

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:36 (nineteen years ago)

Pirate eyepatches and red bandanas. Mini Lego sets (have to be taken out of the boxes, though).

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, thank you for all this. I like the idea of the mini Swiss Army knife, and maybe those tiny maglite torches, as well. I think I'll put a lottery ticket in each one, too (though I will be v cross if someone other than me wins lots of dosh).

Good stuff, people - keep the ideas coming! I have a lot of crackers to fill.....

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:43 (nineteen years ago)

Fold-up Allen or hex wrench sets, those are roughly cylindrical. Although dammit why do men always get good gadgety presents? I'd rather have hex wrenches than someone else's idea of good perfume or jewelry (because my family members are always WRONG about girl stuff and RIGHT about the boys'.)

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, yes, yes! a set of allen keys! Excellent idea.

I might put a memory stick in there too.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:47 (nineteen years ago)

Then you have to think about what to put on the memory stick (kate eyecandy photos, I suggest)

Ed (dali), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

Carved wooden whistles that sound like locomotives or metal ones that call dogs, or other noise-making toys.

That would make my husband happy, because kate eyecandy is very lovely indeed.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

No noise making toys! (I do not want annoying noises while I am recovering from my Christmas alcohol-induced sore heard)

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

put in alka seltzer and ibuprofen

Ed (dali), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

In mine, yes. Although I was thinking of treating myself to some tiny kitchen gadget or other in mine.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

I was hoping to fit a teeny weeny china pestle and mortar in mone, specially for smashing garlic up in. I've seen one, a bit like this :

http://www.marthastewart.com/images/products/mbm/cooking_entertaining/1000_mortarpestal_m.jpg

only really tiny.

C J (C J), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Ooh, I didn't even think of kitchen stuff...wine bottle stoppers (but they have to be cool, people lkeep giving me STUPID ONES that I throw away),

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 20:59 (nineteen years ago)

Fake tattoos, false mustaches, nail scissors, bouncy rubber balls, little notebooks. They have nice small things in Muji, like little travel grooming sets and stuff.
Laurel, those plastic monsters are a fantastic idea. When my younger brother turned thirty, I bought him thirty separate presents. The first one he opened was one of those monsters and he wore it on his finger all day.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 11 December 2006 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

A pair of thermal glove-liners to make any pair of gloves warmer. Metal and/or wooden puzzle things where you have to figure out how to get the two rings apart or etc. A cigar chopper (if the gentleman smokes). Tiny jars of spicy mustard. Mini summer sausages (that don't need refrigeration). Sample-sized tubes of a premium shaving cream.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

We give lots of stocking stuffers in my family. Men's presents are ALWAYS better.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

Or if it's an adult party you could always give the ladies finger vibrators and give the gents the batteries. But you didn't hear that from me.

Laurel (Laurel), Monday, 11 December 2006 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

Twenty Marlboro Lights. Underpants. Socks.

bidfurd (bidfurd), Monday, 11 December 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

Bottle opener
