I don't know why the worst fast food joint (beat barely by Dairy Queen) is always getting ILX hooplah. Well, I do know why, but I can only handle so much.

A cheap and yummy meal(ish thing) can be purchased with speed from the one restaurant sponsored by Pippi: WENDY's. Dollar menu with a fucking baked potato, yummy chili, chicken nuggets almost as good as the Fil-A at half the price, history of pleasantly mild-mannered advertisements.

Please raise your al-anon O'Doull's or sparkling cider with me in a toast to Wedny's.

I had Chik-Fil-a last night MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!1! But Wendy's, yes excellent. Arbys is my stop of choice for in-car eating while driving, just a regular Arby's, no sauce = no worries about dropping sandwich accoutrements down your cleavage while hauling past semis on I-90.

I did in fact eat a Wendy's Frescata sandwich today - turkey, roasted peppers and basil pesto on some surprisingly good bread. Fast food drive-thru is always a last resort for me, but Wendy's is definitely among the best options. Plus they own Baja Fresh which has to be the BEST fast food I've ever had.

j.d. (j.d.), Saturday, 9 December 2006 08:46 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a spicy chicken sammich & fries just last night. I like Wendy's okay, but not as much as my wife -- shit, she'd eat there five or six times a week if I didn't object.

I Am Curious (George) (Slight Return) (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 9 December 2006 14:00 (seventeen years ago) link

The spicy chicken is good but I stopped eating that sort of thing when I found out the fried chicken sandwiches are just as bad for you in every way as the burgers. I don't know why I thought they weren't, but I guess chicken just sounds healthier than beef.

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Saturday, 9 December 2006 14:05 (seventeen years ago) link

Things I like about Wendy's:
- The cattle corral that insures you'll not "pick the wrong line" like at McDonald's.
- The Frosty.
- Being able to pick your side if you're just not in a fry-munching mood that day.
- The jazzy ketchup pumps like you see in catfish places.
- The tables with the old 1910 advertisements for hair tonic on them.
- The strange fact that almost every franchise has a solarium.

I used eat lunch at a Wendy's behind the Kinko's I worked at. Every two weeks or so, they'd take my order and tell me I didn't have to pay. Though that was over ten years ago, I still feel some sort of weird brand loyalty to Wendy's.

It was almost like they adopted me.

PPlains (PPlains), Saturday, 9 December 2006 15:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I tried the vanilla Frosty a couple of weeks ago. It seemed wrong on just about every level (before and after).

- The jazzy ketchup pumps like you see in catfish places.

Another reason I love Captain D's, condiment pumps. But that's for another thread.

"- The tables with the old 1910 advertisements for hair tonic on them."

They got rid of those at my local awile back. They were awesome though. There was even an ad for a Shakespeare production starring Edwin Booth (brother of John Wilkes). A similar table popped up at a local BBQ place, but it just isn't the same.

Yeah. My mom backed into another car in the parking lot of one awile back. The store manager was a witness and told the police it was her fault (we were in a parking space and the other car was heading for the drive-thru), so we never ate at that location again.

my two favorite things about wendy's:

ONE: the fact that the burgers are square b/c they don't cut corners.

TWO: the urban legend that dave thomas was, in fact, severely retarded and had major facial reconstructive surgery to "look normal" and the voice in the commercials was overdubbed.

Wendy's was founded by Dave Thomas and Robert Barney in 1969 and was named after Dave's second daughter, Melinda Lou Thomas, then 8 years old, whom her older siblings nicknamed "Wendy" (originally "Winda", stemming from the child's initial difficulty saying her own name), as Thomas stated in his A&E Biography show.

That's probablt true curtis, but this is interesting too:

Home schoolers have caught the attention of the Society for Human Resource Management, which publishes HR Magazine. They report that employers who have hired home schoolers are generally enthusiastic about them. Chick-fil-A®, a nationwide fast food chain, is so happy with its home school hires that it actively recruits them.

And as we all know (from watching Wife Swap and Trading Spouses,) "home schoolers" is code for "creepy fundies."

Popular belief is that she lost her role with Wendy's after she appeared in a dog food ad, proudly proclaiming "I found the beef!" The actual reason for her termination from Wendy's was an ad for Prego spaghetti sauce in 1985 in which she exclaimed "I found it!" and "I finally found it!", in reference to "Where's the beef?"
