Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha everyone has gone home but me.

NEW OLIVER TWIST NEWSPAPER BOY ANSWERS!

no, it's not for me.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Have you tried that one place over there?

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

My housemate actually has one! I'll ask where it came from. I would post a picture of me wearing it but I won't because it makes me look like a gay Billy Zane.

It's one of those things, like turtlenecks, that I have now idea where to go to get one if it, you know, comes up.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

Haha it has now occurred to me that a flat cap and turtleneck sweater is possibly the wrongest sartorial combination ever created (exception as always: Steve McQueen)

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

?? No it's not. Or if it is, I spend much of my winter committing sartorial misdeeds.

Michael White (Miguelito), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

I think Speedo + suspenders is worse.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

ascot v. turtleneck?

tremendoid (tremendoid), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

That's a turtleneck

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

There really is only one place any discerning cap wearer would go...

They're also one of few places you can still get a decent bowler.

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Friday, 8 December 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, I think it's actually a scarf.

Allyzay is cool: with Blue n White, with Eli Manning, with NY Giants (Allyzay Ei, Friday, 8 December 2006 19:03 (nineteen years ago)

Haha M. White you are obviously the OTHER exception. I need you to live in London so you can tell me where to get these things. I also desperately need a very pale yellow silk handkerchief and it is IMPOSSIBLE. John Lewis, Selfridge's, House of Fraser, Debenham's Brooks Brothers, every random Carnaby street haberdasher - USELESS.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

I read this as "where would you buy a cat flap"

JordanC (JordanC), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe after Tracer finds that pocket square you can sew him to his sheet.

Laurel (Laurel), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

There are good ones in Staples Market I think! Also Edinburgh Woolen Mill in Bicester has some so an EWM in London might too.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:56 (nineteen years ago)

Probably Top Man if you get desperate! They're pretty in.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Ned that site looks like the business but I am not going to pay $100 for a hat, no matter how finely dashed its haber. The newsboy in me recoils.

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Saturday, 9 December 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Damnit, there's a mid-late 70s album cover I'm thinking of involving skinny dude with turtleneck, jacket and newsboy hat. Can't place it.

Actually, there are probably a good two or three dozen of those.

Hurting (A-Ron Hubbard), Saturday, 9 December 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

i expected this thread to be about coffee

Gem (gem ), Sunday, 10 December 2006 00:01 (nineteen years ago)

people it's called a page boy cap and while it's not as bad as a turtleneck it'll still make you look like at least half a tool.

jhoshea (jhoshea), Sunday, 10 December 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Haven't you worked out that john lewis is invariably the answer to these sorts of questions (M&S too).

Ed (dali), Sunday, 10 December 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)

I was once in a department store, I think it was John Lewis, and a Middle Eastern gentleman was trying to buy satin sheets. The assistant was telling him they didn't stock them and he was asked why and he said there wasn't enough demand for them. Now I want satin sheets.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 10 December 2006 13:56 (nineteen years ago)

xpost - I know it's a ridiculous price but let me tell you they are beautiful hats. It's like the first time I put on a pair of Armani suit trousers and the silk inside the leg went below the knee and I just knew was going to blow my budget (i was buying my wedding suit). These hats are the same. And anyway just look how much the bowlers are, you're getting a bargain...

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Sunday, 10 December 2006 21:27 (nineteen years ago)

£172 - in case you were wondering - but look - it's the cats pyjamas...

Ned T.Rifle (Ned T.Rifle), Sunday, 10 December 2006 21:33 (nineteen years ago)

baffled that this isn't a gareth thread

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 10 December 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

I bought my Dad a flat cap (and a pipe and slippers) as a hilarious retirement present from ASDA. Now he insists on wearing it to the football and the joke's on me. This was a year ago, but you might get lucky.

They sell satin sheets fairly often on pricedrop and bidup.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 11 December 2006 13:37 (nineteen years ago)

I got mine at Uniqlo of all place!

Actual answer: market stalls.
