How could they tell when her heart stopped beating?

Dammit, beaten to a Bill the Cat joke in the very first post.

Haw haw (a la Nelson Mutz)

Also: Bloom County was my introduction to many Reagan-era politicos without having any idea who they were. Ed Meese? Jeane Kirkpatrick? Casper Weinberger? Nothing but odd punchlines I wouldn't get for a decade.

Probably because the deeper they got, the sweeter the pain.

Jesus Dan (dan perry), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Don't get up again.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 8 December 2006 17:51 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't think she will!

(Because, you see, finally it was enough.)

Didn't Jeane send Bill dead flowers upon learning that he was dating Cornelia Guest?

I wish I had a copy of Binkley's "Meese Schmeese" T-shirt....

OTMFM! Except I'm foreign so I still don't know who Ed Meese is :) I'll check Wikipedia. To derail a little, what were the new Bloom County's like? Ned? Kingfish?

Do you mean Outland? It had a few good bits.

When I was in 8th grade, my middle-school Scholastic Bowl team took on this private prep school called Avery Coonley. They fielded only 6th graders for some reason, and we easily outmatched them, probably because we had a couple more years of math/science on them. But even in some of their wrong answers it was clear they were freakishly smart: I remember this one kid named Graham shouting out "Ed Meese!" to some unrelated question about politics.

Several years later, he started Kleenex Girl Wonder.

the newest Bloom County strip is Opus, which you can finally read online.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Friday, 8 December 2006 20:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Does Opus' still have a crush on Diane Sawyer?

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Friday, 8 December 2006 22:48 (seventeen years ago) link

Not to my knowlege, but i've barely read the strip since it came out. i'm waiting for the books.

Cosign. Old Doonesbury collections played a similar role for 60s/70s politics.
