Sixty-five years ago today.

The wreck of the USS Arizona, along with being a national memorial, is helping out scientists & engineerings studying the decay of ship hulls, since there's remains half a million gallons of fuel left in onboard storage(and slowly leaking). The guys say that nothing big will happen for about a decade more, but at some point, something big is going to rupture.

In related news, it turns out that Ken Burns is now working on a WWII docu, focusing on the American home front. I found out about it from here from all places, where the author expresses strong concerns since "Hollywood's ganged up to tear down the icon of WWII."

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:49 (nineteen years ago)

According to my anniversary gift list that came in my day planner, one is supposed to give a grey star sapphire on the 65th anniversary.

b.c. was supposed to be good back in the '60s, i think.

it's funny how john lennon's death (dec 8) gets a lot more anniversary crap than pearl harbor (dec 7).
