TEABAGGING!!!!

Sorry...

How long should one leave the teabag in the water before removing? I leave mine for a few minutes, then squish squash the bag muchly with the spoon, sometimes I use two bags.

Others, upon witnessing this declare that my tea is "stewed", why this should be a bad thing I don't know.

There are no hard and fast rules to TEABAGGING (as I'm sure you will appreciate) but what is the difference between stewing and getting the best from the bag?

if u leave green tea in too long it turns bitter

From what I understand, three to five minutes, let it sit and don't dunk it, and don't squeeze it out. This is only what I hear.

You don't want to squeeze it. Just give it a quick jerk or two.

Tea drinks are more likely to own a cat.

One tea bag, squish it to hell. 30 seconds.

surprising reversal of usual rumpie threads being titled stuff like 'an interesting thing to do...' and when you click its about drinking your own menstrual blood or something

and what (ooo), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:57 (seventeen years ago) link

scald the cup first, dump out the water, then steep for 1-3 minutes for black tea (broken leaf) and japanese green tea, or 2-6 minutes for chinese greens or black tea (whole leaf).

I never throw out my tea bags: they stay in the cup until I'm done.

and then you throw them out [/smartarse]

When I'm drinking tea with milk & sugar, I leave the bag in for longer than I do otherwise. The milk just overpowers the tea if it's weak. Same principle with respect to folks calling Peet's coffee "bitter": You've gotta burn the hell outta the beans to taste them after adding 37 other flavors, and Peet's doesn't have separate roasts for black and with-a-lotta-crap coffee drinkers.

Oddly enough, staying here I saw seven golden bowls make cakes and religion (goo, Saturday, 9 December 2006 21:28 (seventeen years ago) link

i drink a lot of non-tea-y teas (like ginger tea or raspberry tea) and for those i like to leave the bag in for ages otherwise it's not flavorful enough. i always squish those. with green or black tea, squishing isn't really necessary after a few min.

today: 4 cups green tea, throat sore.

Steeping less than six minute or so results in nervous-making tea. The first thing to be released into the water is the caffeine. After that, other compounds are released than actually smooth the edges of the rush.

Teabags are shit, though. Not enough in there. Loose tea, people!

That's the sort of tea I *need* in the morning.
