"May I see your papers, Mr. Plains?" said THE F.C.C.

Fourteen years of working in radio, and today, I finally faced my FIRST live F.C.C. inspection. It was like meeting The Great Pumpkin for the first time.

The inspector wasn't what I was expecting. Instead of Agent Smith, it was this quiet old cowboy looking man who was probably semi-retired. I showed him my signed program log. I ran an Emergency Activation System test for our five metro counties.

I'm just sorry that they got rid of that rule saying you had to keep a book containing everyone's license at the station. I used to love looking at those.

You are giving me severe college radio flashbacks.

Thank God they never showed up during my show.

"Son, just why do you have beer bottles on the turntables?"

etc

Even in college, I never saw any official inspection.

Now..., I may have heard about some someone's having a log-signing party to make up for several months' worth of unsigned logs, but I never actually had THE MAN standing in front of me.

never had an actual inspection. Had a fake one once I think. I had to enforce log-signing though, man some people were such airheads about it!

nope, 88.3 WCBN-FM Ann Arbor, all the way to the left of your FM dial. you're listening to 'Kingfish Radio' and it's just after 2 o'clock. Coming up next is some more Radio Birdman and Catherine Wheel, but first, here's the Happy Flowers.
