Can I get a holler from my bros who still cram for finals and can't yet buy their own liquor?

Sorry, it just sounded spiffier than "people who still aren't 21". I know me, louis, and leo... just curious who else.

Let's all bitch about the stupid fucking 21+ shows we've missed. Mouse on Mars played at Bowery Ballroom last month and I was so fucking pissed.

Working at a university = getting to observe finals hysteria without having to worry about it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 23:49 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I get to do both. That is, working at a university and getting to observe (and have to deal with) fianls hysteria, and worry about it as well.

i am worried about finals but at least i can buy all the beers

grbchv! (gbx), Thursday, 7 December 2006 00:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Mr. Jagger can buy all the beer he likes since he lives in the UK.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 December 2006 00:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Sadly so :-( Hey college buddies, what's your favorite cheap beer? I simply must recommend Piel's to anyone who has access to it. It's $6 a 12/pk and everyone I've shared it with is totally wowed by it's quality at that price range.

I'll be 19 on the 15th. I'm cramming for finals right now. (Or I should be, rather.)

Studying in a country that is not America = doing finals while drunk, hell yeah!

[electric sound of] esteban buttez (Estie Buttez), Thursday, 7 December 2006 00:40 (seventeen years ago) link

You could always store up a bunch of apples and catelopes, which will have fermented by finals of spring semester. If it's the way elephants get drunk, it can't be all that bad.

How long you got before the big day?

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 07:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I suffer from this particularly wretched condition through June.

i turned 21 in october but none of my friends did, so instead of going to all these awesome bars (or whatever youre supposed to do) i end up driving to fucking sav-on, buying liquor, and not getting paid back. also, finals suck.

my favorite cheap beer = popov vodka. 9.99 for a handle from super a.

max (maxreax), Thursday, 7 December 2006 08:08 (seventeen years ago) link

I can understand not getting into bars or clubs, but if you're currently residing on an American college campus, there's no excuse for not being able to get beer even if you're under 21.

I don't care if you're locked up in some Honors dorm somewhere. There's always going to be a weird 24-year old grad student down the hall who'll get it for you if you let him be the Dungeon Master next semester.

well duh. that's why I said "buy their own liquor" and not "drink liquor"

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:40 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes, I like to sit on my own and sip scotch and act grumpy and unapproachable. I know it's bad to drink alone, but (maybe it's just where I grew up) the kind of people who will buy you liquor are always kind of jackasses in my experience. Also I am not that into casual acquaintences or sharing.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I promise you, buying your own liquor is a spectacular privelege. But the only age mark you have to look forward to after that is cheaper car insurance at 25.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:45 (seventeen years ago) link

it's not bad to drink alone, trust me on this one

clevo lk (clevo lk), Thursday, 7 December 2006 20:26 (seventeen years ago) link

cheaper car insurance at 25.

Also renting a car without an age penalty cost.

i've never been turned away from a show for being under 21, because miami doesn't have many shows and oberlin is always all ages. as for drinks... great lakes has some fantastic brews, but they are only available around the great lakes. sierra nevada is also lovely.

luckily, i have an older friend who looks a lot like me, so i have his ID now.

friday on the porch (lfam), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:51 (seventeen years ago) link

it seems that "crackdowns" on fake IDs have been getting more and more intense every year... am i right?

grady (grady), Thursday, 7 December 2006 21:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Am I just a grampa or does getting drunk + cramming not mix?

I just had my last final and now I am ready to drink. And I can do this with impunity for I am ANCIENT.

Casuistry (casuistry), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:00 (seventeen years ago) link

i'm 21 but still cramming for finals. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. There is not enough alcohol in the world to make them go away. also, not enough coffee to make me pay enough attention.

xpost yeah, with fake ids...one of the bars in my town (there are 2) has started requiring 2 forms of photo id, like a license and student id. it's really annoying.

Maria e (Maria), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh Jesus, studying and drinking is almost as bad as getting high and studying. not gonna result in anything useful the next day.

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:38 (seventeen years ago) link

i never studied drunk once all through college until the night before my graduation ceremony. i was furiously writing my last paper ever while trying to finish moving out of my apartment. the paper was for my american popular music class, had to be twenty pages, and my topic of choice was afrika bamaataa. i began writing at mindite, started in with the beerz at 2am, finished page 20 at 7:00 am, and was standing in line cap and gown at 8:00 am, loaded with both caffine and alcohol.

i think i got a B on the paper.

grady (grady), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:58 (seventeen years ago) link

I had a prof once who would hand out our graded papers and say, "Whoever I graded last probably did best as I had the most scotch by then." (paraphrase)

Abbott (Abbott), Thursday, 7 December 2006 23:00 (seventeen years ago) link

studying drunk is different than studying and drinking though! a couple cups of spiked coffee on a long night of paper-writing is good because it keeps you from falling asleep AND being angry that you're not asleep.

Abbott (Abbott), Friday, 8 December 2006 00:05 (seventeen years ago) link

popov vodka...woah that's nasty...although silver wolf might be a little worse.

is philips the default cheap-ish alcohol company everywhere or just minnesota?

Majorska's the cheapo brand of choice here @ Rutgers. $9 for an entire liter... and it burns like hell on the way down.

majorska? really? im from princeton (not the college, just the town) and we drank a lot of popov and a little leeds, but little-to-no majorska.
