I hope Luke and Christopher start a Fight Club. Easily the best part from last night.

At this point I just want it all to be over.

There's a new weird development with this show that's totally freaking me out: amid this season's sub-par chatter and cardboard characters, there are now these weird moments of subtle and totally underplayed psychology, like a One Tree Hill writer deciding to play Chekhov for ten seconds. I only caught the last fifteen minutes or so of yesterday's, but the sequence at dinner had a weirdly deep logic -- right after Marty makes the trust-fund comment, Logan gives him this total bastard stare, and then immediately outs him. I have no idea how someone runs from that kind of approach straight across to Rory and Logan once again having the dumbest-sounding arguments in the world. Although that was the rare one that would have benefitted from having been written more stupid:

RORY: OMG WTF DUDE???
LOGAN: I didn't deceive her, you deceived her.
RORY: UMM WTF R U PSYCHO???
LOGAN: I was asked a direct question, I'm not gonna lie.
RORY: ?!?!?!?!?
LOGAN: She's a nice girl, she deserves the truth.
RORY: ?!?!?!#$*&?!?!!!???

Although to be honest it's still ridiculously implausible that in the meeting-Marty moment she wouldn't have just been like "haha very funny, we knew each other freshman year."

two months pass...
Last night's was much better. Luke's little "hi there" wave was so adorable.

yeah it's on an upswing now. i'm feeling kind of burned out on this show generally though

the breakup scene was good though; it's been a long long time since I've broken up with anyone but it brought all that back pretty realistically

so it got better from the first five or so episodes of this season? i was a huge fan but decided to not watch the series out, it wasn't worth it. if it got better maybe i will catch up on dvd or something tho

It has got a lot better. Still not back to the great days of before Luke, but a lot better than the first episodes of this series.

I knew it! Logan's software deal was indeed too good to be true. Happy birthday.

Oh, as soon as he said he was using his trust fund to finance the thing, it was obviously headed down the drain -- TV logic dictates that Logan has to get knocked down several class notches so we're allowed to like him. The past several episodes have been annoying about that, actually, with Logan constantly having to ingratiate himself and suddenly be Sweetest Guy Ever to win the audience's approval. Same for Luke, obviously, though they've been doing that all season long.

At this point, the whole thing's like watching a grand master play chess against a four-year-old: you know exactly who's going to mate*, and it's all just pushing pieces into position for precisely what you expect.
