to put my cat down on Wed.

arrrgh.

I'm full of doubt and trying not to think about it. Actually I hope wed. is not too late. He didn't eat anything yesterday. :(

:(

g000blar (g00blar), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

It sucks to schedule the death of your pet.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

Your poor cat. Poor you.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

:(

stet (stet), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

So sad, my thoughts are with you.

Rumps (Rumps), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

(I hate clichés, but) it really is for the best.

StanM (StanM), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

I know, I'm trying to remind myself of that. and also that pets don't have the hangups about death that we do.

But now I'm second guessing myself b/c G. says he got Q-Tip to eat some tuna before he left for work. In the past week when he has ate, it's only been a couple of tablespoons worth and then the plate's always full of blood afterward so I'm not sure if this should change anything.

I guess I'll just see how he does over the couple of days.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so sorry Sam. It just sucks. One of my best friend's cats died on Friday of fatty liver disease - he had been wasting away for months and the vet just wasn't able to save him. So she's worried that she could have done more to save the cat...

Hope Q-Tip does start to feel better - and if nothing else, I wish him (and you!) peace.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Monday, 4 December 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man, I wish I could hug you. :-( Our doggie Lucy has been shitting and peeing in the house lately. NO FUN, especially when you have a baby. She might be turning senile. The vet's wife said:"If she is, then you have to put her to sleep."

nathalie (stevienixed), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:07 (nineteen years ago)

So sorry to hear that it's come to this, but I'm glad you did get some time with him between the diagnosis and now. Let me know if you need anything!

patita (patita), Monday, 4 December 2006 16:13 (nineteen years ago)

So, the vet gets his wife to do his dirty work, eh? (x-post)

Really sorry to hear about your cat, Sam.

Madchen (Madchen), Monday, 4 December 2006 17:53 (nineteen years ago)

aw, this is horrible. i'm sorry to hear about this, sam.

kingfish in absentia (kingfish), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so sorry :(

It's the hardest thing in the world to make a decision such as this, but it's only because you love him so much that you want to prevent him suffering.

Big hugs.

C J (C J), Monday, 4 December 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Sam, I am so very, very, very sorry to read this.

I know it doesn't matter that you know you're doing the right thing - the pain and fear and anger don't lessen any.

This is going to sound terribly cheesy, but I read it somewhere and it's always resonated with me when I have to make decisions about euthenasia: The greatest gift we can give our animal companions is when we take their pain and make it our own.

Q-Tip is fortunate to have found you as a companion and a caretaker - thank you for being there for him when he needs you most.

So many hugs and tears (I've had to have three little ones put to sleep in the last five days, myself), Sam - Laura and Crew

MsLaura (IPOW), Monday, 4 December 2006 23:20 (nineteen years ago)

C J OTM. And if Wednesday's really the time, you'll know.

Factory Sample Not For Sale (Factory Sample Not For Sale), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 06:41 (nineteen years ago)

ah, Laura, I'm sorry for you too. I don't know if this gets any easier the more you do it but I'm sure this won't be the last time for me. I'm already planning to get a new cat. I've loved QTip too much not to have another kitty to love.

I'm ready to get it over with now. He's super skinny and although he still tries to eat and purrs with us he's obviously not himself and not really enjoying life anymore.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

It's so hard. It's better to end it before his life is all suffering, though. You poor baby!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so, so sorry, Sam. All my best to you and bon courage.

Michael White (Miguelito), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:05 (nineteen years ago)

Big hugs, sugar. xx

luna (luna), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so sorry. Much love and peace to you and your kitty.

Lance Rock (pullapartgirl), Tuesday, 5 December 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I'll be thinking of you tomorrow.

I don't know what your time frame is on getting another kitty, but some friends of mine are looking for a home for a beautiful 6 month old male, ocicat-type markings, and is very cuddly and vocal. We saw him this weekend, and if he weren't so interested in their birds I'd have been tempted.

patita (patita), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

WAY TO HARSH MY BUZZ, SAM.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 07:33 (nineteen years ago)

Sam, you and your kitty are in my thoughts. Lots and LOTS of hugs.

nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Thinking of you and Q-Tip, Sam. Please know that you're both surrounded by warm, loving energies and that we're here when you want to talk. Many, many hugs. Laura

MsLaura (IPOW), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 11:47 (nineteen years ago)

My sincerest condolences, Sam. :( Cats are the best, and putting them down is the worst.

Hi Sam, I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and Q-Tip.

Allyzay is cool: with Blue n White, with Eli Manning, with NY Giants (Allyzay Ei, Wednesday, 6 December 2006 18:50 (nineteen years ago)

aw. Q-tip. =( very sad.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 6 December 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Thank you for all your thoughts and positive energies.

It's done. We just got back from the vet a bit ago.

I stayed with him in bed all day: sleeping, cuddling. G. fed him a little bit and he scarfed it down like he was starving but only ate about a tablespoon before he started choking. I tried my best to clean him up, being momma kitty with a warm washcloth and wiping the dried pus and stuff that's covered his eye/nose. but the pus would come right back and he looked pretty scraggly by the time we went to the vet.

It was over so quick, seconds. and then he was gone. just a lifeless body, not my kitty.

My boyfriend took it a lot harder than I expected and I'm pretty worried about him. depsite trying to stay calm for qtip's sake we were both bawling like babies by the time we left him there.

I know it was right and I'm glad it's over but the house and all his little spots seem so empty now.

The dogs, ever helpful, were quick to gobble up every last bit of his leftover food as soon as our backs were turned. bless 'em.

i'm going to go watch basketball and drink lots of beer now.

love you Q-Man

jaq (jaq), Thursday, 7 December 2006 04:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'm so sorry Sam. I don't know what else to say. I've been thinking about you on and off today, though.

Sara Robinson-Coolidge (Sara R-C), Thursday, 7 December 2006 05:00 (nineteen years ago)

It sounds to me like you did exactly right by your cat.

Now, if you aren't worn out from good deeds, there's a white and grey fella we call "Tony" roaming our neighborhood in Swede Hill. He's good looking and very friendly, but doesn't seem to have a real home. There's a highly allergic person in the house, so we can't help him...

austin!@#$ (austin), Thursday, 7 December 2006 05:18 (nineteen years ago)

:) you and K both!

I definitely want a new kitty but I think I'm going to wait until after christmas.

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Thursday, 7 December 2006 05:25 (nineteen years ago)

Lots and LOTS of huggelz.

nathalie (stevienixed), Thursday, 7 December 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry to hear this, my condolences.

Rumps (Rumps), Thursday, 7 December 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

Are those pictures of QTip on your blog? He's a handsome fella.

It sounds like he was lucky to have you as his owner (if one can ever in fact own a cat ... I always think it's the other way around). You gave him a happy life, and you gave him dignity in death.

I've shed a tear for both of you today :(

C J (C J), Thursday, 7 December 2006 12:59 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, Sam, I've been through this and I know how it hurts. My most heartfelt condolences to you and your feller.

RIP, Q-cat.

Michael White (Miguelito), Thursday, 7 December 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

My dad always said to watch out when folks are suddenly feeling a bit better during a bout with cancer, and to take advantage of that time--it's a gift. It's usually not long before they pass away.

I'm sorry that you were in the position to have to make that decision for Q-Tip, but he's not suffering anymore. I admire your interest in having another kitty, lots of folks would just shut down and not want to feel again.

When you're up to it we should grab a coffee or something.

patita (patita), Thursday, 7 December 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

Aw, a coworker told me this morning she had to put her cat to sleep last night, too :( What a sad day for kitties yesterday was!

Hope today is a little easier!

tehresa (tehresa), Thursday, 7 December 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

stay strong sister, we're all in yr corner

Matt Cibula (Formerly, the Haikunym), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

Sounds like the gentlest death possible—you're good cat-mom!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:53 (nineteen years ago)

Sam, so sorry to hear about Q-tip. He was so loved, and had a great mama.

molly (molly d), Thursday, 7 December 2006 22:57 (nineteen years ago)

thank you all. I just uploaded his last pictures:

Ms Misery (MsMisery), Friday, 8 December 2006 01:58 (nineteen years ago)

You did the right thing. Condolences. Let time be your doctor.
