C/D: Corn on the Cob

CLASSIC

I had it tonight and I managed to boil it to perfection. It helped that it was incredibly fresh and juicy. I think I ruined my shirt with all the juicy corn and the butter dripping off it. I was happy to sacrifice it. It is the greatest gift nature has given us!

Normally I would post this in 1p3 but it's the sandbox so who gives a shit, amirite?

Classic. My dad plants a crazy amount each year, so we were eating it for every meal in August. This year we're trying the freezing-it-whole-in-the-shuck method of putting it up for the winter. When we want some, we can just pull out a couple of ears and put it in the microwave. (Soggier texture, but the flavor is right.)

This is my favorite veg and one of my top five foods. When I first got a $1 from the tooth fairy, I went to the next-door grocery, bought five cobs of corn, and ate them myself in front of my mom after she helped me cook them. Corn greed is the sweetest greed.

only classic when the corn is fresh from a farm stand/farmer's market.

Yes, the sugar in an ear of corn starts to turn to starch almost immediately after it's picked from the stalk. Keeping it iced until used helps to preserve that fantastic flavor.

I heart corn on the cob. I cook it in gently simmering water to which I have added half a teaspoon of sugar and a sprinkling of rock salt, then eat it with lashings of butter.

When my brother and I were little kids, we used to have corn on the cob eating competitions in which we would see who could finish theirs first, but we had to pretend they were typewriters, eating it one row at a time and making a "ding" noise and shouting "carriage return" before starting the next row.
